    Hi there,

Does anyone know a part number for this part? Any tips on where to buy one?

Since that’s not a Prius Prime bumper in your photo, I assume this is for the 2011 Prius you’ve posted about before. In that case, the part marked by the red box is the Left Front Bumper Hole Cover, part number 52128-47900, list price $9.74. See parts catalog Figure 52-01, Front Bumper & Bumper Stay.

The spare part comes unpainted; if you want it to match the color of the rest of the bumper cover, you’ll need to have it painted locally. A body shop could do this, or you could try your hand with spray paint.
    Any Toyota dealer’s parts counter.

    Hi all,

Revisiting this issue. I still haven't replaced the missing Front Bumper-Tow Hook Eye Cap Cover for my 2011 Prius online.

I can buy one online, but it's unpainted. Any tips on how to get it painted without spending a fortune? Can I buy my own touch-up paint? It's just a 4x4" cap, so I'm not worried about it being perfect (but don't want it to look like crap either).

    Ideas?

    Thanks!
    SG

What color's your car? Very likely Dupli-Color or someone makes a spray can.

Yeah, as small as the part is, try any OEM color matched spray paint. Dupli-Color @Mendel Leisk mentioned is a good one, but any auto parts store should have arrays of spray paints with matching color code. You may need to prime it before finishing color, it comes un-primed. This is the type of DIY fixes I can handle when I don't care so much about the perfect look any more.

BTW, what is this "Front Bumper Hole Cover" for? Is it hiding a bolt head or something on the bumper?

It's for the emergency towing eyelet. Page 489 of 3rd gen Owner's Manual:

4th gen and Prime have similar. IIRC they were more prone to popping out, say going through an automated car wash? A dab or two of silicone sealant would maybe help with that: you could still pry it off if needed, but less prone to just rattle off.

Addendum: yeah here it is in 2017 Prime Owner's Manual, page 649 (you have to roll your eyes at the stratospheric page no...):

Thanks. That's good to know. I looked up my manual and found the information. I don't think the eyelet hardware came with the car, or do they? To tell the truth, I have never opened the tool kit included with my car.

Never mind. I found in the manual as well. They must be in the tool kit bag. I am assuming there are a pair of eyelets in it, although the pic shows only one. I will check later.

Only one tow eyelet supplied on our 2010 too. I gather that's all you need; they just made two places you could attach. If you're walking, looking at parked cars, you'll see a lot have just one such cover on front bumper, one side or the other.

Really! With only one eyelet attached, can they still tow the car in straight line? I guess, this is really for emergency situation only, but if the car is being towed by chain or cable which is not supplied, I assume, does someone has to stay inside of towed car to brake?

Yeah I think it's just to get a car out of a ditch for example.

Our Honda's always had a U-shaped piece of round bar, welded on the flat (hard to describe) on the underside of front framing member, and a similar round bar welded vertically 'round back.

The Prius likely have a more conventional rear tow point(s), it's just the front bumper that's problematic, being a complete plastic shell.

Rear tow point on our 2010:

According to PRIME manual, there is a rear towing eyelet hole. What is not clear is the note says, "The hole is equipped for fastening the vehicle while shipping". Not sure if it can be used to pull out a car from a ditch say if you go head first and there is no way to utilize front tow eyelet.

Got it. I'm not terribly worried about getting the quality perfect. I mean, it's barely 4x4". That's just me though.

I'll check into paint options. I figured I'd need a primer, thanks for confirming.

Thanks to those who have enlightened me on what this opening is for. Who knew! ;)
