I agree debit can be more challenging than credit card disputes. A couple things in my favor is my case is very well documented, as a matter of law the way he handled a couple things (e.g., writing "estimate" on the receipt instead of "quote") works against him, and maybe most importantly I'm using USAA, which has been a strong, pro-member advocate in prior disputes.

Thanks for the reminder I need to be particularly thoughtful and deliberate when presenting my justification for a charge-back. I'm definitely going for hours charged in excess of our agreement of 15. Now I need to find out if withholding more is justified if the work wasn't completed correctly.

@Skibob Are you largely in agreement with ChapmanF (largely just a bunch of stuff probably not plugged in) or do you see larger issues? Thanks!

i had a 15 year old onan 12kw propane generator with a honda engine. a great machine, and when i finally got tired of doing mown tune ups, i called the authorized dealer, and they proceeded to break it. they were unapologetic, and wanted $3,000. to fix it. they wouldn't even accept part of the responsibility and negotiate.

when i called chase and told them what happened, and supplied all the emails and the bill, they came back with a finding for us and credited our account. the guy at chase was incredulous.

i went with a new company who installed a kohler. same size, but you can tell the quality difference. onan was a great machine, and should have lasted at least 20 years. kohler does not look to be built as well, and is definitely much noisier than the honda.

They must have broken the generator part. I can’t see breaking a Honda engine that practically never ran.

agreed. the tech claimed that sometimes replacing the 12v will fry the ecu. say what? even so, 3k for a new one? now you're in prius territory :p

and they didn't even know, they were just going to throw parts at it:rolleyes:
