Hey guys. I'm replacing the rear shocks and was surprised to see that the OEMs are actually cheaper than KYB at $40 a piece.

Is there any reason to go with KYB?

I replaced the shocks on our old 2010 at 180ish k miles and went KYB:).

They’re OEM and they work well;).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

KYB and Genuine Toyota are definitely not the same. They are tuned differently and the Genuine Toyota units last significantly longer. I have seen this multiple times. Also, not all Genuine Toyota shocks and struts are made by KYB - some are made by Tokico.

I am in the market to buy a pair of rear shock absorbers. I was thinking between TRQ and KYB.
Now that I see the OEM is around the same price, I will get me OEM shocks...

I checked and it seems the part number is 48530-80533

Thanks for pointing that out! I may shoot them an email to confirm, seems weird that this $50 item is included with the $36 item (shocks)

    EDIT:
    McGeorge's (very quick) response:

Part number 48530-80533 does not appear to come with any bushings. It would just be the shock with the top nut. The description is handled by a third party, so it is unfortunately inaccurate. We apologize for the error.

    EDIT2:
What I ended up doing is getting the OEM shocks from McGeorge and then getting two KYB SM5840 mounting kits for ~$60 from RockAuto. Hopefully this works out OK
