Has anyone seen or heard of this mod on a Prius? Will it show Dtc because of back pressure reduction from the 02 sensor?

Ok let's try this again........ Has anyone ever heard of someone modifying/gutting the catalytic converter on a Prius? Would the modification cause there to be a loss of backflow/back pressure causing the oxygen sensors to read wrong and a DTC code to be present in anyway?

They may have done it. However, please don't. By gutting a catalytic converter, a person doing this both breaks the law and causes very real harm to other people. There is a reason this is against the law.

back pressure isn't what will set the CEL, its the incorrect voltage signal from the O2 sensors. I don't think there would be any advantage to gutting the cat; it worked with old carbureted engines, but the real choke point on a prius is gonna be the tiny exhaust pipe behind the cat. instead of ruining your cat, look into a custom exhaust system after the cat. whether there is any possibility of getting a bit more power is a whole other can of worms...

Back pressure/airflow will set the DTC if you gut the cat because the exhaust is moving faster than 02 sensor can keep up with giving false readings..... I would never do this to somebody else's car this was a hypothetical question one of my friends asked about

Don't gut your Prius cats! It won't work and they are valuable in scrap. If they have failed, replace them with high quality aftermarket cats, and sell me your oem units. You can contact me here or on my cell 6312915509
