Disconnecting the 12 volt negative cable is cheap insurance. Reconnect it last thing, and before you do, push the brake pedal multiple times, to take up any excess travel. The disconnect protects against the piston getting pushed out, the pedal pushing when done protects against the car detecting excess travel, throwing a code.

My 2015 rear caliper pins were rusty at 25k, just a few months ago.
I lubed them all up good and changed out the rusty rear a week later.

Check them frequently esp in the rear.

Were you able to determine how they got rusty? What condition were the rubber boots in?

When I ordered new pins I also got spare boots
However, after a closer look boots where fine and the lube inside was just almost non-existent.
So i just used the new oring/gaskets in the boot kit
Not a good pic here but just the rear, i think both were the bottom rear. top may have been a bit better.
But changed both on each side.
My C has drums in the rear
My guess was PA salt and etc.
Im glad after 5 years I decided to do 100% of my own maintenance.
