What is your miles/kWh (total average electricity consumption) on the "Drive Monitor 2"

    That seems to be the norm. That is another reason I can't convince myself to switch to a BEV. Even if they are available, the economics of charging on the road is simply prohibitive. Although I have not yet to see any charge station, from what I read here the cost of a charge station for a fee seems to be much higher than my own electricity at home. And for me, at the current price of gas, even charging at home is more expensive than gas.:(

    That's sad. And possibly criminal. :( Our gas isn't the cheapest, but it's not bad. Just went up to about $2.45 a day or two ago. But electricity is only about 11.5 cents/kWh. Long trips using gas cost me about 4.5-5 cents/mile. Typical driving here costs me about 2-2.5 cents/mile.

    The gas cost is actually similar hear. It has been staying at $2.46 almost all summer. It may go down a bit now the summer is over. Our electricity is currently 19 cents/kWh. At this price, the gas and electric both are at 4.5 cents/mile, but I have been using grocery points to get the gas at discount anywhere from $1.50-$2.00/gal. Which makes gas cheaper than electricity.

    Same here regarding paying for charge. I use free chargers where available because the fee is per hour based on 6.6kW. The Prime can only accept 3.3kW so even if there’s no one else at the station, I can make full use of the max charging rate so it’s effectively 2x the cost for a Prime owner since we charge at half the rate. At 55mpg, gas is cheaper. (And I can get over 60mpg in the summer).

    Move out to where gas is averaging just a touch under $4 a gallon and the electric charging makes sense ;).

    And with solar, it’s paying for itself in multiple ways(y).

    Finally got my lifetime DM2 up to 5.0 miles/kWh. That's a 10% increase since June this summer. It was 4.5 miles/kWh. See my comment #1. I put ~6800 miles on my car and during that time, I have tried to increase daily "miles/kWh" as much as possible sometimes with the expense of using more gas. Even with using gas (HV) to increase EV efficiency, the overall mpg for the lifetime also increased to 85.1mpg from 84.0mpg, so it must not be wasteful overall.

    The challenge is how to keep this number during winter months.

    Good question, but I don't know the answer. I never use preconditioning in my car. My guess is, it does not count in the miles/kWh calculation since the car is not on the "Ready" state, but I might be wrong. Can someone who uses preconditioning regularly confirm or deny?

    I do use preconditioning, but it would be a bit of a project to try to determine how the car accounts for it. You'd need some kind of controlled test.

    Edit to add: I do think, though, that it is most likely not counted for the same reason you gave.

    I do preconditioning as well, and when I return to the Prime, it shows 100% and the miles / kWh are the same as when I left;).

    It’s like when you switch from EV to HV, the miles / kWh doesn’t change(y).

    Now thinking about this again, I think the precondition while plugged when wall charge is available, is likely to be not counted for EV efficiency. But how about the precondition when not plugged? Essentially, you are depleting the battery charge without doing any drive. If you use 1kWh of battery doing preconditioning, that's 0 miles/kWh.

    I know I have depleted the battery while in that mode and the miles / kWh metric didn’t change:).

    It’s just a narrow way to look at things that only counts when it’s in either EV Auto or EV mode(y).

    Thanks for the info. Knowing that the "mile/kWh" value is strictly for EV mode (including EV portion of EV Auto) makes it easy to understand what those numbers mean. It is similar to the use of heat and AC during HV mode not being calculated in the A/C load.

    Yes it was all EV and I charge at work with a 115v charger. But i had to charge with the windows down to avoid using the AC while charging and also I was sweating balls all those days because I didnt you tje AC while driving. It was just a test I did to see what a hard core Hypermiling person would get.

    Just lost my 2018 in an accident (I was rear ended) so I cannot pull up the lifetime numbers (11500 miles). However, I look at my daily commute numbers frequently. 40 miles round trip on city streets. This summer my best was 9.0 miles per kWhr. Average was about 8.5. At my best I did the 40 miles and had 22% battery remaining. The cast estimates just under 50 mile range for full EV charge. In the Winter, it was closer to 5 miles per kWhr and I could not make the round trip on a single EV charge.

    I am surprised today that I have achieved 12.7 kWh/100km = 4.89 mi/kWh with this type of weather.

    My average after 17000km is 13.65 kWh/100km, so if I combine this with 5.46 kWh battery usable capacity it gives a range of 40km, and I do +/- 40km electric every day.
