Converting Prius G3 to all Electric removing ICE

    POC its encouraging that it can be done keeping all the original prius function
    in this variant of MG2 only

    Did They over amp MG2 only? or Did they access MG1 as a motor?
    MG2 only is what was done here I think
    this is not ideal compared to accessing MG1 and MG2 but very cool

    If you can control MG1 & 2 independently you’re don’t need to weld, lock or mod anything
    but controlling an open sun gear can be challenging for a diy device

    I wonder what you mean "controlling an open sun gear can be challenging for a diy device"

    I was hoping some type of reference point such as using same stock hv battery that comes with the turd gen 3, or an equation of total amp hour battery equals miles driven.

    it would be interesting a few km , but the batteries would be destroyed quickly if you did ,

    edit: well really interesting, what range we can access, without battery damage

    I wish you the best with this project.

    Do you plan to use a G2 or a G3 inverter? Have you seen the extended warranty on the G3 inverter? They can fail when pushed too hard. Is that going to be a problem with your project?

    I will use G3 so i can avoid welding the planetary gears
    and the combined Power of G3 is 102 kw vs 80 kw in G2

    (but i will still play with G2 inverters for other projects)

    I expect i will find out but its designed by Panasonic and I don't plan to be be taxing it outside its ratings

    Damien Maguire 's release of the G3 logic board that he reversed engineered is also available as of Nov 2019 . He runs i think openinverter forum above.

    Although I have seen earlier G3 projects we have to credit Damien Maguire
    for placing the Gen 3 logic board controller in public domain in 2019.

    G2 has been reverse engineered for some time and has been public the link Rmay6635703 is great for G2 projects.

    From my post earlier I cant thank Damien enough:

    A Engineer in Ireland just recently Nov 2019 (starting 2018)
    created a replacement
    G3 inverter controller Logic board
    and has released it as public domain at GitHub

    Yes, one time my G2 ran out of gas, but I was able to continue driving on battery. I noticed that I couldn’t go any faster than around 40ish

    You had an earlier concern about many of the features not working when they sense that the ICE is missing. What if you developed the OBD code like this guy to bypass error codes?

    He is using an OBD reader to clear errors just before driving off.
    Interested in this specially as now you are not using a Plug in as its M1 and M2 are lesser powered and the simple G3 is a bit more easier to get a hold of.

    How far are you with your project??

    EDIT.
    Any options for using the ice solely as a battery charger. As in I would like the ICE to run only to charge the battery and disengage it from the tanssaxle.

    I don’t think the “transaxle” can be disengage.
    Maybe just pressing the gas pedal when in P...

    The engine is also used to dissipate excess charge in downhill driving to avoid overcharging the battery pack.

    Using the ICE to charge the battery (as in: more than you would under normal hybrid driving) is not a good idea, economy wise. The engine is still not very efficient and when charging and discharging you have losses. It is better to charge the battery from the mains and it is better to use the engine solely as propulsion.
    And no, it is impossible to disengage the ICE from the transaxle. Under normal circumstances it will not turn when the speed is below ~42 mph (on a normal hybrid, on the plugin it is a bit more), any higher than that and the engine has to turn. Not necessarily use fuel, but it must turn to prevent MG1 from over-revving.
