Tried a few things posted online for regular Prius and didn't seem to work. Hate the backup beep....thanks for your help!

Officially there is no setting to totally disable. Your dealer can set it to a single beep. You can do it yourself with an OBD2 dongle and app like Carista. Some apps are free some cost a few dollars.

Welcome. I hope you like your fantastic new car as much as I like my fantastic not as new car. Great as it is, it does have a few annoyances. Some you can change via the operator interface, some need a little equipment, and some you're stuck with.

I've had three Gen 2, a PiP, and a Prime. As @schja01, said, the backup beep can only be changed to a single beep. No way to disable it. And there's also no way to change it without using a phone app with an OBDII dongle or, better yet, Techstream. There are countless threads here about both methods.

You'll find that there are tons of things that can be customized that way.

The dealer can set it to a single beep, ideally for free. I would read the owner's manual chapter on customization and do them all at once.

I just bought Carista OBDII adapter on Amazon. Currently 30% off. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YVHGTBM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The app comes with 30 days trial subscription to enable special customization for PRIME. You can change everything you want to change during that period, and cancel the subscription. At $14, it's cheap enough might be better than going back to a dealer.

That's a nice list, @Salamander_King! I just made it into a pdf and saved it with my pdf manuals. (y)(y)(y)

I just copied from the Carista site Toyota Prius PHV/Prime/V 2nd gen | Carista OBD2 supported vehicles | See what’s available for your car - Carista

I have not studied this list carefully, but I first thought the first choice on the left is the default setting, but it's not. (see EDIT below) I am also not exactly sure which items are operator switchable without using this app. Also, there seems to be a few items listed that does not apply to US model PRIME, like power folding mirror. Does this option exist in other market? I just bought the dongle, but don't intend to start the free 30 days trial, until I am ready. Don't want to end up paying annual subscription fee of $40.

EDIT: Looking at the first two items on the list, the default is not the first choice on the left always. Red is default. So, I don't know what default settings are on this list. It would be very nice to know default settings for all of those items.

    Reverse-gear beep
Beep once / Keep beeping while in reverse

    Seat belt warning ding (driver)
    Enabled / Disabled

Thank you everyone! I guess I’ll buy the OBD connector and the app, thanks. I was also wondering if there is a way to disable the warning screen about distracted driving when the car starts every time?

In addition to setting the above "dealer" options, the Carista app can also read out the individual tire pressures from the TPMS sensors, which for some reason Toyota has chosen to not put into the Prius displays. Even my son's 2008 Highlander does that.

Dr. Prius app has an option to disable the beep. Has anyone tried this app and does it work?

I consider the backup beep dangerous since beeps from people or vehicles crossing behind may be muted or otherwise not even noticed. I know when I'm in reverse, I'm more concerned about people/traffic

The backup beep is customizable by a dealer or a myriad of apps via the ODB2 port. I personally have it set to a single beep. Problem solved.

Lots of people are using Dr. Prius. I have it but since I have the car all set up, I rarely connect to it.

The Dr. Prius website says the following which suggests I should continue looking although, I suppose, a test won't hurt

2017-2019 Prius Prime Plug-In Beta Support
Mine is a 2020 and I tend to avoid beta stuff.

Got brave and tried it out. With Dr. Prius connected beep can be eliminated. Next task will be to see if it's eliminated when not using Dr. Prius. Might be a trip to the dealership yet, but only if there's a more important reason.

    Thanks jerrymildred

Well, reduced to one beep, anyway. I'm sure it'll stick. I didn't use that app to customize mine because I have Techstream. It's the big gun. It's what the dealers use. Lots of threads around here about it if you're interested. But probably the simplest setup, although not the cheapest is Carista. It uses a bluetooth OBDII reader same as Dr. Prius, but you rent the app. I HATE renting software, but it is really good stuff.

Apologies for reviving this old thread, but is there a general consensus on which tool + app works best on the Prime? One month of ownership and the backup beep is becoming unbearable. I recently ordered an obd2 tool recommended by the Dr Prius site and downloaded the app but haven't tried using it yet. The site doesn't have mention of 2021 model year but I figure it should work? Any updates on carista? I don't mind paying one time for software, but really don't like the subscription model unless I'm using it regularly.

If all you want to do is disable the reverse beep, you already have a tool that'll do it with the Dr. Prius app and the OBDII adapter. However "disable" is a little misleading. You can leave it at the factory setting of continuous, or you can change it to one beep. But you can't make it not beep at all. :) LOL!!! I'm gonna leave that last part there about the one beep because it's so weird that I said that exactly one year ago in this thread.

Thanks, ok what about other car functions mentioned above? I'm anticipating maybe changing the headunit down the line and I would like to possibly control the few car settings that are in the current head unit. Thanks.

You can only change a few things with Dr. Prius since that's not its main purpose.
    IMG_05FA71917BB3-1.jpeg

Carista is more aimed at customizing and does a lot more. Any customizing that can be done in the HU should be available in Carista plus a whole lot more. If you look at the list of things that can have their settings changed, you'll see that most of them require a "dealer" ... or Carista, Techstream, etc.

But you might sacrifice some of the Prius specific controls with a 3rd party HU. Maybe someone who's made that change can shed some light on what goes on in that arena.

I think one beep is reasonable! It *is* a safety feature at all. I was glad it was easy to use Dr. Prius to modify the beep, though, because the constant beeping gives me low-grade anxiety (which makes things *less* safe).
