The tint I got was a regular type, NON-metalized film.
It's been a week since now and so far NO REPEAT episode.

Originally I thought the same thing (shorting), like water got into the place where it shouldn't. However, now I don't think so because:
    1. Shorting usually causes a permanent damage. All OK now.
    2. Shorting would blow a fuse for the circuit. No fuse got popped.
    3. The tail light staying on & off & dimming lasted 8+ hours. Don't think shorting would cause.

Like someone said it was very much like a capacitor (in a circuit) was discharging some current at very irregular rate to the light bulbs for extended period of time.

I have had 10+ cars windows tinted for last 30+ years and this is the FIRST time ever something like this happened to me.

    It's all good now!

    I would hypothesize oppositely:

1 Shorting only causes damage if current exceeds circuit's capacity. Water isn't very conductive, so it's unlikely to conduct large current with only 12V potential.
    2. See above.
    3. I would suspect the dimming as water evaporated and the conductive pathway was reduced.

The dimming was very irregular, not linear at all. Sometimes the tail light was completely off for several seconds and then it would turn on again like someone switched on. And it would even flicker rapidly for a while too. The night was cold and humid till early morning. The car was parked on the driveway and there was lots of (water) condensation all over the car over like it got car washed. I don't think any evaporation would have occurred in that condition.

I am a window Tinter and I know this is an old thread but that is what I was going to say. We take care to protect all connections but it happens and moisture can cause these issues. Once it drys out it fixes its self.
