    Hello all,

my Prius prime with 125k miles just gave me a notification that says maintenance required, visit dealer.
It does not specify for what...

anything that can clue me in?
The infotainment system doesn’t show anything in the car section for oil etc..

I don't have the history on my car since I bought it from Toyota with 110k miles on it.

every 5k, toyota programs in that message for basic service.

you can find it in your maintenance schedule

do you know the service for the first 110,000 miles?

I have a carfax and it stated.
    alignment
    cabin air
    oil and filter
    maintenance inspection
    vehicle serviced??

that's about it. I can call them tomorrow and maybe get more details.

I doubt they ever changed the ATF fluid, so maybe I should start with that.

It sounds like you are not the original owner of this car. For sure routine maintenance (lube and oil, tire rotation, etc) is called for, but aside from that, you may be due for high mileage services such as coolant change and spark plugs.

As @bisco stated, you can check the previous service history from the Toyota site. Just a word of caution is that any service record of repair or routine maintenance may or may not spell out exactly what was done or replaced. Just because it says "routine 120K maintenance" does not mean spark plug was changed at that time. So you may still have to check it yourself what service is still needed.

Well first, congrats to you and the previous owner getting 125K on the car. That's encouraging the rest of us. Good points by those above on suggested items to check and service. There should also be a maintenance booklet, or one online, that has things to check at mileage intervals.

The cabin air filter takes one minute to change yourself. Probably about $20 if you buy that from a (good) dealership. The OEM is not easily found online, and those that state that similar types fit are probably incorrect. Took me a month to discover that the hard way. It was about two dollars more at the dealer and was a perfect fit. Videos online on how to change it out yourself.

I seem to remember someone here talking about having over 100k on their Prime already. I wonder if he traded it in. I think he was a salesman. Not sure how to search for something like that.

Anyway, the only thing close to challenging for a DIYer on the 120k mile list might be the spark plugs. But they are way way way easier than on a Gen 3. Oil and filter will require some effort, too, but not that hard once you figure out the handiest way to get the car up so you can get under it. Lots of threads here about it. And the two air filters should take less than four minutes total for both of them.

Are you thinking of the OP of this thread? He just changed the spark plugs on his 2017 PRIME, at 95K miles.

BINGO!!! That's the one. And I remember being super-pleased that Toyota finally decided it didn't really have to be a major ordeal to get the plugs & coils out and back in. Thanks, SK. (y)(y)(y)

So it was Portland. Probably not the same car. But it was the left coast. I had that right at least. LOL!

The maintenance reminder is a simple mileage counter that repeats every 5,000 miles since it was last reset. It does not track time elapsed, only miles driven. Also, it does not know anything about what has been done to the car or what is needed next.

    Just checked with dealer.
They said I’ll need to do the spark plugs, engine coolant and inverter coolant.
    650.00 for those three items.

Those are chores that don't take a ton of money for materials, but do take some time to do right even though they are not hard at all. Still seems like a pretty steep labor rate to me.

Which brand hitch did you install?

    Lift KIt?!
Does anyone make a specific kit for Prime?
What's your reason for doing this?

That caught my eye, too. I would love to have my Prime have about one more inch of ground clearance. Maybe even 1-1/2".

The hitch I installed was from Etrailers.com took me about an hour and a tiny bit of trimming the underpan.
I also took the chance to 3m rubber Bedliner on the metal body while I was down there to reduce road noise.

if you install the parts TOY-15-013 + TOY-15-056/30, it would give you about a 1" lift.

or you can be like this guy...
