300,000 miles without WS and the car is as good as ever another 40,000 in my plug in now too and there is such a thing as exceeds specifications I would never put an unknown or dubious quality oil in.

I'm changing every 6 months (months component for Canada 3rd gen). Km's is around 3000. Still, my oil costs $2.80 (CDN) per liter, Toyota 0W20. To be fair, it was $4.95 per liter. Then they got a new invoice system, and I think they just want to be shut of me, it literally takes longer to do the invoice than to get the oil, so they just rubber stamp the amount I paid a few times back, for a lesser amount. I think. I don't think they even know.

Maxlife LV says it supercedes WS. What does this mean?

To superceed WS it must at least meet the requirements of WS I suspect it exceeds the specifications.

We are chatting about the transmission oil not engine oil but Toyota engine oil changing at 3000kms seems overkill, Toyota make a very good engine oil

i have done about 3 changes in almost 170k miles and i only used this oil for transmission since it is not regular toyota transmission, first of all it is cvt and secondly it is ecvt thats why i didnt put regular toyota ATF-WS or any CVT oil. this container was freaking expensive, i think it was around $80 if i remember correctly.

Toyota has several types of automatic transmission fluid, and they’re not interchangeable. Toyota Genuine CVT Fluid FE, as in your photo, is meant for belt-type CVTs, such as the K120 and K313 transaxles used on certain Corolla models. For Prius cars since model year 2004, Toyota specifies ATF WS; earlier models used ATF T-IV.

first time i bought the guy swore this is the right one with the explanation i gave you that since prius is eCVT thats why this one goes in

reason why toyota recommends not to change the transmission oil over the life of car is because the oil is almost mainly refined mineral oil and has high viscosity index @ 100F very low natural por point of -25F and also with a harmless chemical reaction removes oxygen leaving inert gas nitrogen in sealed transmission. that is the reason it should last for the life of car.

having said that i would still replace it every 60k miles for peace of mind :)

You mean the oil will only last 100,000 miles.

I don't know if I can post links since I'm a fairly new member. but his deep dive on a gen 3 transmission he does specifically talk about cooling the stator of mg1 by the way of transmission oil at about the 45-minute mark. both mg1 mg2 are not sealed compartments within the transmission. I may have been wrong saying they are submerged in oil but they do come in contact with it. I may have said this because I work with submersible pumps that have the stator and rotor submerged in oil. and assumed that's the way it worked after watching the deep dive video he doesn't specifically say that they are sealed from oil.

Toyota WS is cheap enough and easy enough to change that I just do that.
The problem is that I need to get a round tuit.

    1. Around here my dealership parts department sells it for $9.14 (CDN) per liter. That's currently around $6.05 USD per US quart. They have the fill/drain bolt washers too, for around $3 CDN apiece, which is kinda larcenous...

Don't know why the heck there's a "1. " at the beginning of my post, can't delete it.
