I'm a new Prius owner, just turned 1200 miles. I have a question about the smart key door unlock. It seems to be almost instantaneous when I touch either of the front doors. However, there seems to be a 3-4 second delay when I touch the back hatch. No big deal, but somewhat annoying. I'm wondering if maybe I have a bad sensor back there, or is this a common problem.

I think it's supposed to be that way (if not, then i've got a problem too!) the difference, i believe, is the way the sensors were designed. the ones on the door handles are extremely sensitive, and go off the second any pressure is applied (they'll go off while washing your car from the water if you've got the fob in your pocket!). The hatch, however, seems to be more of a standard switch... you've got to sqeeze it until the button depresses far enough to trigger, not just touch it.

On the two front doors, no pressure is needed--it responds simply to touch. The back hatch, however, requires that you actually press the area as though you were going to open it--it will unlock immediatly when you put sufficient pressure on it, and then you press again to actually make the hatch lift. do not know why they did it that way....

To refine both eagle's and mcbrunnhilde's response, you don't even need to touch it. Try it! Place your hand in the cavity close to the handle but don't touch it. It'll unlock.

With regards to the hatch, press once and it'll unlock so you have to physically press the button. Hold it to unlock and the release the hatch (or press twice, once to unlock, once to release the hatch if you don't like holding)
