I have a 2009 Toyota Prius which I'm wanting to replace the shift control actuator on. Does anyone know where to find a step by step breakdown on how to remove and replace this?

So I bought this 2009 prius about 4 months ago in its current condition with p lock malfunction And this is my 1st prius so its taken me some work to figure out I've doe all of easier quick fixes I've replaced the 12 V battery I've checked the ground on the 7.5A fuse I ran tech stream and got the codes C2300 When I try to shift into neutral I can hear some clicking so I'm thinking that the actuator is getting power and I'm going to swap out an actuator from a 2005 prius that I bought for spare parts to the 2009 prius. Any thoughts? I'll upload a picture of the health check in case anyone is curious. Thanks!

Sure, just follow the procedure used for swapping out the MFD. Plenty of youtube videos for that. Just stop after removing the left center AC vent cover and then the shift mechanism is right there, held in place by a couple screws.

I believe that you're referring to the inside shift levers., what I'm after is the actuator attached to the back of the transmission.

Yikes..you must be talking about the 'park' motor? I guess shift actuator is the real name for it. If so, I believe there's been a handful of replacements done by members of the forum. I'm pretty sure there's a few threads available, but they may be buried under a bunch of others. Quite a few thread discussions come up if "P Lock replacement" is used for a search. A lot of them are just questions, but somewhere in them, should be a few DIYs.

Sometimes this is caused by a wiring corrosion issue resulting in low voltage at the actuator. Look at this thread post 17 and the ones near it.

I'll take a look through the repair manual when I get home to see what's available in it. Maybe I can post something useful to help you out.

Alright, I ended up being able to get in there after I jacked it up and removing and replacing the parking motor but alas the red triangle persists. I'll check out some threads and see if I can find out where I can go next. This may be a dumb question but is it normal for the car not to start (as in the motor doesn't start at all) when its on but won't get into ready mode?

This should have everything you need for troubleshooting. P-Lock removal starts on page 60ish.

Yes, I have had the same observation, and finally clicked that those posts are noobie posts that have to wait for moderator approval and then when they're approved, they pop up. That's my theory, anyway.

The trouble is, if they are too far back, they might get missed.:(
