Persistent P0401- dealership says replace intake manifold

    Did they clean the EGR sub-manifold inside the intake manifold or only the intake manifold airways?

    BTW how is P0401 detected anyway?? We had "insufficient flow" and pre-ignition for a long time but the light only came on at 200k miles when the cooler was absolutely plugged! I found one way that defeats P0401 is if the EGR valve is left open to air; maybe the EGR valve detects the upstream pressure difference over the downstream vacuum?
