So I've searched the threads on here about this and am curious what is the current best option.

I'm replacing my compressor this week and the last thing I need is oil.

I called toyota and they wanted like 250 dollars for a qt of it. That's not going to happen.

Ideally I'd like something I can put into the compressor before it's in the car. I have a full set of manifold gauges and a vacuum pump to pull a vacuum too. However I don't think I can add oil into the compressor without buying something else for my gauges and I really don't wanna do that.

I got a purge and fill at dealership for $150 plus sales tax (CDN). Maybe just install the compressor and let them do the charging?

I spent 50 bucks on the compressor. I don't want to spend triple that on a charge.

Plus I just spent like 100 bucks on this vacuum kit and I want to use my cool new tool :sneaky:

    What about the gauges?

You should never use a gauge set that has previously been exposed to PAG oil on a Prius. One gauge set for cars with electric compressors, another for cars with belt-drive.

That said I don't think you're going to find a substitute for ND-11, but you can probably find a cheaper source without a Toyota part number.

I may have missed this in an earlier post, but why are you replacing the AC compressor?

    Ac won't get cold

Tested the system and it holds pressure so I'm thinking it's the compressor

If you tell Techstream to run the compressor various speeds, what speeds does it run? What pressures are you seeing when the system operates? What does Techstream say about the pressure switch status, etc?

One thing you may want to check is whether the inverter is sending power to the compressor.

In Gen 2 the inverter contains the variable-frequency drive for the compressor, so it will only be sending power when it has been instructed to run the compressor, and the power will be AC, at a variable frequency.

    Good luck with that.
Guessing at the cause of a problem often turns out bad.
Finding the necessary oil might turn out to be the least of your worries.
Have you removed the old compressor yet ?

    So I hooked up techstream

    Apparently the compressor is working

It's only reaching about 6200 rpms

Apparently techstream says it should be 7200-8400 or something like that?

It's capable of a wide range of speeds. You need to make sure it has been asked to run faster than 6200 before condemning it for not running faster than 6200.

Ok... Well if it's not the compressor... And the system is holding pressure... What is it then

"pressure" is pretty vague. These systems are ultra-precise. If your charge level is off (high or low) by a half ounce you could lose 20% of your capability.

By far the best way is to zero it out, vacuum it hard, and then fill it with the supply vessel on a very accurate scale so you can count off exactly how much has been added.

Yes this does assume a good compressor, and I don't think yours is fully proven in or out yet.

    I tested the compressor

Got it up to around 7500 rpm

I don't feel any cold air still

Checked the psi before hand and it was holding at like 45-50

Here are some photos of my manifold gauges if thatbhelps

AC on a Hybrid or EV is NOT something to be trifled with! The oils used in them are specifically non-conductive, those in wider use do nt meet that standard.

The oil needed is WIDELY available in the marketplace, but unless you know what you are doing, adding or removing AC oil from the system generally leads to more problems than were initially present.

Do some get lucky? Yup, but it is a BIG risk.
