Just bought 2nd gen Prius with 175K. Thinking about doing major maintenance

    Ok thanks for the heads up. So before over assuming to do my oil in 5k miles after putting in full synthetic, I will test it after about 1k mile and see of the same amount s still there. Would it really be a huge problem if I add more than the recommended oil? Like if I didn't check the dipstick and instead put half a qt every month

    Yes, it would be a significant problem. Check the dipstick, then decide whether oil is needed. An excess oil level can cause a crankshaft seal oil leak.

    ok thank you. I just did my oil change about 50 miles ago so I would check it in about a month

    Did you every find out how much your Prius was burning oil?
