In general it's less expensive to replace the whole tank, but a 13 year old car is not worthy of brand new overpriced parts. Find a mechanic that will install a used gas tank system or DIY it via a wrecking yard.

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

Did the mechanic use an OBD2 scanner to retrieve the codes (DTCs), and can you post them here?

Post the replacement part # and we can help you locate the best price for a new or used option as well.

Yea... There's many stories I've heard of people driving for years with warning lights on and without any problems... However if a new problem develops, you won't have warning lights that turn on because they're already in use by the other problem, so that could be problematic in the future.
