    Hi Guys,

As I said, the dealership had told me to replace IM and Egr gasket....today i brought my car back home after I paying him for the diagnostics.

Dealership in my area had no IM gasket. I decided to clean IM , Throttle body myself and keep the old IM gasket till I get the new one.

I followed NutsandBolts video for IM cleaning.

The problem is - Before it was vibration while driving But Now my car is ratting while park. I am scared and need your help.
    .
IM- After removing EGR Pipe, I removed IM. There was mild oil (1-2 teaspoon ) at the base (where Throttle body sits) of IM. There was a lot of carbon near the IM holes and near Fuel Injectors. Fuel injectors seemed fine.

I first cleaned IM with Carbon cleaner and brake fluid. During this clean, I removed Manifold position sensor.

Later, I decided to go to car wash and give good pressure wash with mild soap to IM. I used bristle brush to clean it.
I pressure washed from the hole where the EGR pipe joins IM and the water was coming out from the small holes. After wash, I assembled everything but with old IM gasket.

I also cleaned Throttle body with TB cleaner.

After assembling everything, when I start the car, It rattled. I switched it off quickly.

I rechecked Throttle body, disassemble it and overturned it, it was dirty with old oil (back side of the throttle plate). I cleaned that side, assembled every thing and start the car....same loud rattle.

I than recalled that I kept the FUEL VAPOR FEED HOSE OPEN- ( I did not pinch it).

I Have various questions in mind:-

Is rattling due to the :-

    1 Old head gasket?

2 Moisture in the IM (Incomplete dry) ?

3 Open fuel vapor feed hose pipe ?

4 use of too much carbon cleaner?

5 Issue with Manifold absolute pressure sensor?

I need your advice . Thanks

Did you ever try swapping the old plugs - all 4 - back?

Also - "and keep the old IM gasket till I get the new one." Wonder if that could be the problem - a leak there?

I'd be surprised if it was Head Gasket - leave that till last.

    Hi Alanclarkeau,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I swapped the old Plugs, but still same issue. (before taking it to the Dealer).

Also, when I rechecked the MAP sensor, there was mild oil (side facing the IM) but not clogged. I did clean it with rag BUT not MAF sensor cleanrer.

Regarding head gasket-- My engine coolant level is normal, no white smoke from the tailpipe.

What do you think about the new rattle after cleaning IM and TB?

    Thanks

    Update:-

I rechecked all my connections (electric and hoses) after cleaning IM, TB, MAP sensor. I kept my old IM gasket (Even now I got new gasket and PCV valve from the dealership).

After first start up, it rattled...I did not switched off the engine ...and after 1-1.5 minutes of running ... The smooth sound of engine running came back.

I drove the car about 15-20 mins and there was no jerk and vibration..WOW.

I think that jerk was due to mild moisture due to IM cleaning at car wash or due to carbon cleaning.

Now there is no any code.

Reflection:- If I reflect back, small hole on IM (of #4 cylinder) was blocked with carbon (that runs from EGR pipe to #4 Cylinder), that was forced open with pressure wash. I think, that blockage was the reason for #4 cylinder misfire.

    It also means that my plugs/ Ignitions coils/Fuel injectors were fine. P_20200805_133807.jpg P_20200805_133819.jpg P_20200805_144032.jpg P_20200805_153558.jpg P_20200805_163541.jpg

Overall, the car runs very smooth now.

I am very thankful to all the members of this wonderful Platform who spent their precious time and share their suggestions.

    Thank you again.

Now, as I received new IM gasket and PCV valve (from dealership)..will update after changing them.
