Post 17 seems to disagree, as their experience mirrors mine..except they're on level 2.

wishful thinking, but if (while charging) climate control prepping for departure could simply be heated seats & steering wheel, that would pretty much do the trick - for many.
That stinking 2011 leaf - the resistance heater could pull almost 5KW (in drive mode) - while the on board charger was limited to only 3.6KW.

Depends on one's settings. Set the interior temp too high and even L2 may not be able to make it up in time as they can only give what the car will accept (typically 3.3kw rate for most PHEV's). Like Hill said above, most resistance heaters can pull 5kw when working hard; add in the fan, all the on board electronics, electrical converters, line losses, etc., and the next thing you know demand outstrips supply.

On plugins that have it, watching the liquid cooling activate when a battery is warm while charging, the system's cooling - fans - circulation - pump will intermittently operate and even after charging is complete will cycle back on to make sure optimum battery temperature is maintained for better traction pack life expectancy.

Next time I'll try a lower temperature for pre conditioning, maybe 19 C. I assume that even if the battery is not quite at 100%, is still a net savings vs not pre heating...
