I just got my car back from getting reconditioned batteries and decided to use the Priusapp and got the panlong obd2 adapter. We drove about 124 miles and when we parked the car the electrical system shut down completely for a few minutes, this happened 2x on that trip. After the second time I verified that the cables to the 12v battery were secure. I on the 3rd stop it turned on without issues though. The next day my husband took the car to work and once again it happened. I am curious if it is something with the install of the hybrid battery or maybe if the obd2 adapter could cause it.

The battery. Probably something is not tight.

Thanks for the quick reply, the 12v battery cables were tight, I checked it, can the hybrid battery do this?

Do you have any OBD2 codes (DTCs) that would indicate something with the newly installed HV battery?

I've had a $2 adapter act up before, it polluted the CAN-BUS in a bad way. Best to remove the device and see if the problem comes back or not (mine didn't). Now I don't leave any OBD2 device plugged in for extended periods of time, though it may be safe to do so.

It sounds like you may be having an issue with the 'combination meter', numerous threads on here, including a DIY repair option. You can also buy a 'fixed' part, with your exact mileage, and a lifetime warranty at : Prius Speedometer Replacement

I am talking about the hybrid battery. Something inside.

Thanks for the info. When we were driving it didn't have any codes, but I didn't run the Dr Prius app to test batteries yet. I'm going out later today to try that. I hadn't read the instructions to try it. I will read up on the combination meter after testing. Thanks

Ouch, just paid $2200 to have reconditioned ones installed, has 3 year warranty, well, going to try the dr prius app and see what is up there. I got the app after taking it in, wanted to keep better track of them. Wish i had it before! Thanks

Believe me, we only made the decision to do it because by that time it was quick and easy. Our old battery lasted 15 years, i took it to a place that had the prolong recharging, and he said too many bad banks to use, and i would have had to pay $165 diagnosis, waived it whith battery install, sometimes time is money, and the increased cost for gas in Ram 2500 wasn't going to happen for long...

Well, decided to see if i could run the tests, plugged in adapter suggested by drprius and guess what, it lost power all over again, interesting that opening the liftgate always resets it, so I'm ordering a different model and sending this back.

Once you have an OBD2 code scanner, you'll no longer have to pay $165 for a diagnosis, which has to be more than the dealership would've charged. My local dealership doesn't charge for diagnostics, coffee, donut, car wash, flat tire, but I digress.

Many prefer a 'mini-vci' cable (20 usd) and a copy of techstream (dealer technician OBD2 software) installed on a windows device.

@jerrymildred highly recommends the OBDlink LX adapter : hybrid assistant wont connect to bluetooth | PriusChat

Sure hope that reconditioned/refurbished HV battery lasts the three (3) years, and longer. Be sure to update us going forward.

Given the one (1) star reviews for Sturken, and the extortion of 2200, were they at least kind enough to clean the HV battery fan?

Thanks for the additional info, guessing you read my previous post about P0A80 or did you guess another way who did the work? I should call and ask about fan, I asked about it when left, it wasn't mentioned on the invoice. Most of the reviews for them were great, the one stars I saw seemed to be dealing with bodyshop, not car repair. I also had hoped that since they were on the Hybridbattery, Prolong site that they would be able to recondition and that since they were listed by that company as an authorized dealer that influenced my decision, oh well..

Just another note for future reference:
The ODB2 connector is "hot" all the time.
If you leave a device plugged in there while the car is OFF, it can run the 12 V battery down.

Thanks, I don't tend to leave it in, did one time when not testing, but, since then have had the same problem with no power after sitting and no device connected, so now I'm certain it isn't that. I'd already stopped using that one completely. grrrrr.
