So, can anyone tell me how the air intake flap is supposed to be attached? I’m curious how it worked and if I need to bother with this. When I change the air to re circulate the top comes down. Was the purpose of this flap to move with it or was it always in the same spot covering those holes? If anyone has a video if it while switching between each mode that would help.

That picture of the mesh screen on the duct tube, when I look at my 3rd gen, I see there is a plastic screen built into the cowl at the beginning of the air intake just below the windshield, and then when I look under the hood at that area, it looks like it is all covered up, how is a mouse getting in to that open port that you put a screen on if there is no visible direct access to that large black duct?

You probably saw your answer by now, but that black mesh that you were holding in the photo goes just behind that opening that you can see in your pic. And it stays stationary.

I believe that’s the cabin air intake you’re asking about? It’s too damp and cold for me to check right now, but I believe there are some openings a mouse can get through. Likely IN the engine bay, and mice can easily get in there. They DO get in; quite a few reports here, owners finding nests atop the cabin air filter.

Yes I'm talking about mice getting into the cabin air filter area, as most people seem to say that is the number one ingress point on the gen 3, yes?

But I see that there is a plastic screen at the bottom of the windshield built into the cowl where the air is drawn in for cabin air.

When the car is switched off It goes to recirculate mode and blocks off the entrance into the cabin at that cabin air point, so how does something get in if that cowl screen is intact?

Ok. Mendel did mention a good video from nuts about bolts spark plug replacement, I guess when I have all that stuff out I will be able to see exactly where they might be coming in from, apparently this is a common issue on the 3rd gen.

We have a second gen also and have never experienced this issue Also our Sienna has not had any intruders lol, And that one definitely has plenty of food crumbs from the kiddos sometimes
