Prius C 2012 no start no crank

    Hi experts,

    Mileage is ~50k miles on the clock. Car was driving perfectly 3 weeks ago and sitting for 3 weeks. Now car is not starting or cranking after 3 weeks. Dashboard lights, central lock, and accessories are working. Plugged scanner and I got all four DTCs p3000, p0a80, c1259, c1310.

    When checked the HV block voltages, the block 1 is showing less than 5 voltage where as other nine blocks are showing more than 15 voltage and the auxiliary battery voltage is showing ~11.6 voltage. All HV blocks internal resistance is same. Cleared the DTCs but codes popped up again. As per the fuel gauge it has fuel (fuel gauge is not empty but at the last bar)

    1. What could be the cause for car not starting?
    2. Can it be related to wiring sensor harness or battery ecu?
    3. Can it be related to weak battery?
    4. If the block 1 is replaced, will the car get started?
    5. Is there anything I should look into?
    6. If I disconnected 12v battery to charge it, should I have another 12v battery connected to avoid any memory resets?
    This is my friend's car and I am a DIY so he is looking forward my advice.

    Less than five volts for a block is pretty much disqualifying.

    It is not impossible that a sensor harness or ECU issue is involved, but that would be easily checked by applying a multimeter to the indicated NiMH modules, which would seem the next obvious step anyway.

    Be sure to study the necessary high-voltage precautions and follow them, so you don't lose the chance to see how the story turns out.

    11.6 for the aux. battery indicates that it is almost DEAD.
    Get that charged, tested or replaced before spending time and money on anything else.

    Thank you very much for your suggestion. Btw, this is going to be the second HV car I am going to deal with. I wanted to clarify few things for sure before starting this repair.
    1. Can this scenario (less than 5v block) cause for no start no crank?
    2. If I wanted to disconnect auxiliary battery to charge, should I feed another power until I connect the battery back?

    1) yes, but you can try disconnecting and reconnecting the 12v negative to reset the computer and see what happens.
    if it won't crank, the hybrid battery is kaput, but make sure the 12v is healthy first.
    2) that will save all your settings, but not necessary. and you don't need to disconnect it to charge.

    Charge or put in a new 12v aux batt.
    OEM last a long time and it could be the original.

    Sometimes that has caused wonders in the Prius world

    No. But there really is no need to disconnect the 12 V to charge it........unless that is the only way to get the charger close enough.

    Hi all here, thank you very much for your great advices. I was able to complete the job. Replaced on HV battery module, rebuild the entire pack with battery charger/ discharger. The car is running smooth and fine now.
