Blower Motor - eBay OK?

The blower on my 2014 Five Hatchback is flaky...sometimes won't come on when it should (according to fan speed indicator, AUTO temp, etc.) I smack the area where it is below the glovebox and bam, it wakes up and starts spinning. A little noisy sometimes too. Basically, it sounds old/dirty and I want to replace it.

Are the $50-ish ones on eBay OK? Any experience on here? Don't want to be penny-wise and pound foolish by going cheap and needing to replace it again soon if OEM is better. Dealer just so pricey...thanks for any input.

 

Well, no comments but if anyone searches this in the future, it seems to work fine. Dramatically improved noise, airflow and (most of all) it actually starts when I want it to with no under-dash smack needed.

The blower I removed looked a bit dirty on the white plastic and the metal shaft looked like it had a bit of rust on top, but seemed to spin OK in my hand. Didn't feel that different from the new one - indeed, it spun a bit easier than the new unit, but wasn't nearly as smooth or even in its spinning.

Also, for anyone doing this job, IMO the recommendation on several YouTube vids to bend the metal clamp that holds the wiring connectors is a bad one. Besides possibly breaking (and certainly weakening) the metal clamp or plastic it attaches into, once bent it remains quite difficult to get an 8mm wrench or Torx 25 in there to remove the obscured motor screw the clamp covers. Once I managed to remove the screw, I had to jiggle and angle the motor so much to make it past the clamp that it seemed within the realm of possibility I might damage the housing it mounts inside. There's simply not enough space.

Instead, unscrew the clamp with a short Philips driver. I didn't even need to clip the plastic wiring restraint holding the cables the way this excellent guide shows - I just pushed the cables aside with the driver and unscrewed. Another tip: you can loosen the clamp screw just enough so the screw stays in. That gives you about a centimeter to push the clamp down, which is plenty to extract the old motor and to install the new one in. Plus you don't risk cross-threading/stripping out the plastic screwing it back in at the wrong angle, since it's hard to see. The motor drops right out, and the new one goes in easily.
