I would try the the Carfax Buyback. If you got your own Carfax and registered the vehicle upon purchase, they state they will buy it back from you. My guess is that in a private party sale, it's buyer beware. But with Carfax, their buyback guarantee is in writing. I would go that route first.

I know this is an OLD thread BUT I am looking @ buying an 08 T1 Ex taxi it is a rebuilt with head on collision damage The taxi board will NOT allow rebuilts as taxi so they are selling it with 66 000 Kms
and areas OTHER then structural to look at for damage
in MB all rebuilds need to get a structural report done and a safety done (safety must be done every time car is sold) thanks

I believe such court actions have time limits, and this stale old case is now beyond the limits of some states.

It would not hurt to contact legal aid society or some lawyer. Perhaps they can write a letter to the seller and convince him into buying his car back or had will be in small claims court.

Let the lawyer advise your chances of winning in court

If that does not work contact behind Carfax people and open a claim against the guarantee

If both fail get a good cheap mechanic

I know this is VERY old post,, but Steve is an honest person, that does GREAT work! and he will be honest with you,, He is my guy to do all the maintenance, i will drive the 4 hours to have hime do the work, I will NEVER go to a stealership for service. BTW his prices on the refurb cares are great also. I am sure there are others who also as honest , we must promote them on this board, let folks know who you can trust,

Speaking about Carfax, is that buying Guarantee for good? In the last several months I bought used Yaris for my kid with clean CarFax and sure enough, it turned out there was an accident involving the frame. Somehow I missed it during inspection, duh! Unfortunately, I didn't pay for the carfax, a friend who has a subscription printed it for me. Anyone with positive Carfax Guarantee experience?

Edit: I looked it up and they only cover this:

A "Branded Title" is a passenger motor vehicle ownership or registration document issued by any of the 50 states of the U.S. (or the District of Columbia) or a passenger motor vehicle registration document issued by any province of Canada which was issued with words or symbols signifying that the vehicle was: junked or salvaged; dismantled, rebuilt or reconstructed; flood damaged; fire damaged; hail damaged; bought back by its manufacturer ("Lemon Law" vehicle); odometer exceeds mechanical limits; odometer was not actual mileage; or which was issued with any other symbol or word signifying a similar Brand.

Sleazy people prey on people who are not financially stable. I have had things happen to me when I was young and in the military and I did not have any money, not as bad or expensive as what happened to you but still similar. I do not think it is wise to put as much money as you mentioned in repairs on that car. I would salvage the car for what I could get out of it, buy another car and chalk this up as experience and move on. I would take him to small claims court and see if you can get anything out of him. I would not hire a lawyer, probably just more money down the drain and accomplish nothing.
