I have a 2005 Prius, roughly 200,000 miles. New 12v battery put in a little less than a year ago.
I got an oil change last Tuesday, and as I was pulling out, the Red Triangle came on and the whole dashboard lit up. I was able to limp it home, though it definitely wasn't running properly. Since then, it hasn't started up again: No red triangle the dashboard lights up, the electrical systems come on, but the power button goes orange and the engine won't start.
I bought TechStream off of Amazon, and when I ran it I got the following codes:
    P0A0F
    P0300
    P0301
    P0302
    P0304
    P0445
    P3190
    P3191
    C1241
    B1421
    B1248

I understand that sometimes quick oil change places overfill the engine, which can cause shutdowns.
All the mechanics I've called in the area are booked for the next week at least. I'm sadly not a very handy person when it comes to cars, and I was hoping someone could identify what might be the core issue.

start with the 12 volt health and connections, even though it's new. when you're satisfied with that, check the oil level.
if that is good, you can google the codes

Those P300, 301, 302, 304 codes are all misfire codes.
    300 is random multiple misfires
    301 is cylinder 1
    302 is cylinder 2
    304 is cylinder 4

3190 and 91 are poor engine power/engine failed to start, etc.

Have you checked the oil level using the dipstick? I'm curious what the level is. I've also heard overfilling can cause this issue, but never experienced it. Must be a s*itload of overfill to jack it up that bad. But than again, maybe just bad enough to suck oil in through the PCV, coat the mass air flow sensor and cause it to read poorly.

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

Some DTCs may have related INFs (aka subcodes or detailed codes), knowing the INF may help you diagnose in a timely fashion.

Was there a small bluish flower/cloud icon that you could click on, just to the left of the DTC. Example in the image below :

If you do something and things go wrong immediately after, the logical first thing to do is to go back over what you (or a kid who might know less than you about cars) did. In this case, just pull the dipstick and look at it like @TMR-JWAP advised.

With new oil it can be hard to read. I would pull it, wipe it on a rag or paper towel, reinsert it all the way, and then pull it again. If you lay it on a paper towel on a flat surface, you can see where it wets the paper and get a better idea of how far up the dipstick the oil goes.

I'd guess it's pretty seriously overfilled. If I ever get too decrepit to change my own oil, but not too decrepit to drive, I hope I'll remember to take a couple paper towels with me when I get the oil changed. Meanwhile, I trust no one else to do that job.

    Well, I've made some progress.
I followed your advice, and checked the oil. It was way over the notch on the dipstick- I let out about a quart, which brought it back to under the notch. Sadly, this didn't do enough to get the car running.
I ran TechStream again, and I'm getting fewer errors now:
    C1241
    C2318
    B1421
    B1248
The little snowflake icon came up for the C1241 and C2318, and I saved the info for them. It gave me big long spreadsheets of information, and I'm not sure which pieces are relevant.
If I'm reading this all correctly, it looks like my battery is the culprit? I was hoping that this meant all it needed was a jump start, but alas, this did not correct it either.
Symptoms are the same - I start the car up, all the dash lights come on, the power button turns orange instead of green, engine doesn't start.

Slight further update, which I only thought to do after posting the above thread:
After watching a couple of youtube tutorials, I figured out how to to check the battery voltage. It's coming in at 10.6, and drops to 10.1 when I try to turn the car all the way on.

10volts is way low for a 12V battery- at full charge it should read 12.6 to 12.8V at the battery connections when measured with a digital multimeter. Might want to have your battery charged and load tested or have it replaced. That might not be your problem, but one of the first troubleshooting steps is to verify that the 12V is good.

If the oil was significantly overfilled and contaminated the MAF sensor to the point the engine won't start, the sensor will need to be cleaned. And yes, the 12v battery needs to be charged.

There's a lot of threads about cleaning the MAF sensor on a Gen 2. Even I have a thread about a P0171 and cleaning it with some lessons learned. The link for that thread is below..

So good news, with a touch of bad news:
I got a new battery, installed it, the car turned on and the engine started. Hurray!
The voltage is coming in at 11.5-11.8, which seems low. Is that a bad sign?
I ran techstream again - the only error code I'm still getting is the B1248, which deals with the display.
The bad news: While changing the battery, I found a -ton- of rust under where the battery sits, and a fair amount of standing water. I've attached photos. I would not be surprised if this was related to the short lifespan of my previous battery. Any idea how the water is getting in?
After testing the new battery, I removed it again so it wasn't sitting in a pool of rusty water, and cleaned the area as best I could.

I think I've identified the core issue, which is that I'm trapped in Samsara.
I found the leaks, sealed them up. Fired the car up again, and for a brief second, all seemed to be well.
Then the engine started shaking. I booted up techstream once again, and I'm back to getting my former rogues gallery of errors:

    P0301
    P0302
    P3190
    C1241

    B1248
    This is very dispiriting.

A rubber plug about the size of a nickel is located at the bottom of that well (and the well on the driverside also). Just push the rubber plug out and any water that finds its way to the well will just drain out. I've removed those two plugs in all my Gen 2s.

Throw some TLC to the MAF sensor and the spark plugs.

I have spent today learning how to clean engine parts.
I pulled out the MAF sensor and cleaned it, but I was still getting the same issues after.
I've just now finished pulling up the spark plugs, and low and behold, the 1 and 2 spark plugs had noticeable amounts of gunk on them. The engine coils too.
I've cleaned them off, and before I put them in - should I try and clean down in the socket where the spark plug sits? Is that even possible?
    Edit: Further update
I checked in the throttle body (I think?) under the air intake box. It looked like this:
I'm guessing cleaning that out is part of my mission. Any advice?

What you initially noticed was the transmission (used as a starter) turning the engine over in an attempt to start it, then once it started you noticed the rough idle.
What issues/codes (DTCs) are you retrieving now?

What did you use to clean the MAF?
Clean all 4 the best you can.
Yes, try using a shop rag to soak up as much as you can. You may need new gaskets.
There is usually some oil there, but you may have a bit more than normal. If attempting this clean up, it will require a sturdy towel that has some absorbancy. Removing the throttle valve from the intake manifold will give better access.

Codes are all coming up the same as before:
    P0A0F
    PO300
    P0301
    P0302
    P3190
    C1241
    B1421
    B1248
I cleaned the MAF with mass air flow cleaner from auto zone. I swabbed the throttle with a microfiber towel, and seemed to get most of it up. I'll do the same with the spark plug gaskets.

I took some photos inside the spark plug gaskets, and there's a lot of discoloration in the first two:

And based on the bottom of the throttle body you drowned the engine in oil.
How many quarts of oil did you put in?
This engine takes 3.9 quarts of oil with a new oil filter?
