Does my 2020 LE have this? It makes a ton of beeping noise in reverse but I thought that was just inside the cabin. Did it start after or is it in the higher trims?
Here's the advice a biologist and conservationist told me about the issue with driving and deer in the road: If you can't avoid one, try to aim for its rear, because as he said "animals RARELY back up in the wild."
It makes the sound even at zero speed when you put the gear selector in D or R. Roll down your windows and shift from P to D or from P to R to hear it. It is easier to hear it in a garage. It sounds like a soft grinding sound.
I can confirm that the reverse beep is totally gone on my 2022 Prime. My 2021 Prime has the beep. There is no single beep, just no beep at all.
No reverse beep but I have a faint beeping from back seat maybe when driving in eV mode only. Like 1/1000 sound of the backup beep. 2022 Prius prime yes the eV wind sound at low speeds
Mine is in front of the radiator, just to the right of center after you remove the top plastic cover. It's held in by one bolt (14mm I believe). I think the newer Toyota's are even louder...a neighbor has a new Rav4 Hybrid and I can hear the UFO speaker when he drives by the house...ridiculous!
2024 here. I'm sure I have no sort of reverse alarm, like I had in my Gen 3. I saw no settings for it in my setup screens. I never thought it was necessary anyway. Who needs to rely on others to see you when you're backing up? Conventional cars are just as inconspicuous to pedestrians when they are backing up anyway.
The reverse beep implementation was to “remind” you that you’re in reverse, a compensation due to the uninformative, return-to-centre shifter. It doesn’t work that well for me; more than once I’ve lost track of which direction I’m going to go when pushing the gas pedal. Luckily haven’t had any disasters yet. The traditional automatic shifter is much better in that regard; I never messed up with it.
Yep , the return-to center shifter has induceed me a new habit of checking the D or R indicator on the Dash before releasing the brake pedal ,also listening for the UFO sound , it is twice as loud in Reverse . No backup beep beep on the 2022 Prime
Why was the reversing beeper speaker on the outside of the car, if it was to remind the driver of being in reverse?
