2012 Prius v vehicle operating system keeps crashing/restarting

    For the front end work I need done I will buy the parts myself and have a local competent mechanic friend do the work for much less $$ than the dealer.

    For the head unit issue, there are other options than having to rely on the dealer.

    Are you talking about the speedometer display unit. Used ones can be had on eBay for a little over $100 off of eBay. They are quite easy to replace on the Prius v. The 2012-2013 units are compatible.

    It could also be that the wiring harness was chewed by rodents.

    You could order the really expensive full under dash replacement harness or have the dealer replace it.

    The dealer will only replace the entire wiring harness, but you can fine a salvage yard and get only the partial part that you need and splice it in yourself, as the part shown in the attached photo. display pigtail.jpg

    I'd pull out the display and check for damaged wiring, first.

    Lots of people have had flakey head units. Just replace it with an ebay part for a couple hundred. Normally a 57011 unless your trim 5 had the optional bigger screen. Be sure to get one with the bottom auxillary assembly.
