Hollow rattle over bumps at low speed (2020 Prime)

    I've got a month-old 2020 Prius Prime LE with 800 miles on it now. Love the car, but it's developed a plasticky, hollow-sounding rattle when going over bumpy roads at low speeds (<20 mph). It is especially present if the bump causes the car to roll a bit.

    Like I said, it's a plastic sound, almost like a coin stuck in a water bottle. It will increase in frequency for a couple seconds (like a coin coming to rest on a tabletop) then go away. Seems to be coming from under the car but honestly I'm not sure.

    Many thanks for any advice and/or similar stories!

    your car is under warranty, take it back to the dealer for free analysis (and hopefully repair)

    License plate frame? Is anything in your center console? Glove box? (I had a weird rattle and turned out to be my spare sunglasses I forgot I had stashed in my center console).

    Could it be the passenger seat belt hitting the plastic side if it is twisted. I have had this happen on two occasions.

    I have the same type of rattle. The rattle seemed to also be temperature dependent. The colder the temperature the more I noticed it. The dealer found it to be a plastic panel on the rear hatch. They replaced the panel and for about a month the rattle disappeared. Unfortunately it returned, so I am guessing it is a fit problem. I haven't noticed as much since our temps have been in the 60s and 70s. It was the top panel above the rear hatch window. Rattles annoy me, but I am just going to live with it unless I can find away to secure the panel. Turn the music up and go on. Good luck with yours.

    Mine seems to be more from the bottom of the car, either by driver front tire area or just below the driver seat. It’s hard to really tell. It’s more like a “knocking” sound the more I think about it.
