My 2017 Prime stopped being able to be charged in January. Soon after, I took it in for service. I was told the 12V battery needed replacement in order to complete their diagnostics. Those were on backorder. The battery finally came in, so I brought it in today (May 3). The new battery was installed, and it still doesn't charge. The dealer is stumped, but is going to contact Toyota for advice.

Anyone else hear of such a problem?

Has the dealer checked for charging-related Vehicle Control History events, as described in my previous posting?

If the car tries to charge and can’t, or if charging stops unexpectedly, there should be stored information about the cause.

After 4 days of troubleshooting, they determined the charging unit has malfunctioned. They are replacing it under the standard 100K mile warranty that applies to the electric traction system, and are loaning me a car until the repair is completed (about a week).

I'm sorry; something doesn't 'smell' right. I'm assuming you haven't been jump-starting the car everyday for the past 5 months. Yes a weak battery can cause strange errors to pop-up; but not being able to run diagnostics?? Worse case, they could hook a jump pack on it to run diagnostic. Did they even try plugging in your charging cable or their own charging cable?
I'm pretty sure this dealers' service department doesn't know what they are doing or they do know what they are doing and was able to up sell you a new battery. They didn't give you that for free and are they charging you diagnostic fees?
Please keep us updated on the progress of this issue; I'd be interested in the outcome. IMHO; I'd be looking for another Toyota dealership service center or better yet, an independent Prius specialist.

    Good Luck...

FYI; I had intermittent issues with my scheduled charging. It turned out the dealer entered the wrong date into my ECU; so one weekday and one weekend a week my car wouldn't charge. I figured that one out myself and corrected it myself.
