    Hello fellow Prius owners:

I am writing to warn others against making purchases from PriusOverlanding. In June, I purchased and paid for a set of Gen 3 window shades: $286.74 I still haven't received them and expect I never will.

After numerous attempts to contact the seller and only receiving automated emails saying that a "ticket has been created" and we "will send you a personal response.(usually within 24 hours)" I finally received a pleading email two months after my order from the business owner (a frequent poster on this forum).

It was a long and rambling email about being a small business and making bad decisions on fulfillment companies. Anyway, in the email he said: "If you prefer not to wait for your order please, please make an attempt to reach out to us before making a chargeback. Chargebacks really hurt a small business like us!" "I am actively in the ticket system responding this week and moving forward; any previous email sent will be responded to you this week!"

I made the mistake of believing him. That was 3 weeks ago and I still have heard nothing. In that same period of time he has made more than 40 posts to PriusChat... one of them about organizing a "group buy" on springs.

I would NOT recommend giving this person your money.

I have refrained from providing this individual's member name to avoid making this a personal attack, but rather to educate the community on this risks of making online purchases with unknown vendors -- PriusOverlanding in particular. Please don't make the same mistake I made.

Whenever you're in doubt and the seller doesn't come through with whatever they promised, you have a right to do a chargeback. Do it in the timeframe the bank allows and don't go outside that timeframe. At the end of the day, you are all strangers in an imperfect world. Don't be too nice and let your guard down.

To the seller's credit, he works really hard on this stuff and is not a big business but doing a lot with limited resources. I'll message him for you and hope he's able to make this right for you. He's a super ambitious dude and sometimes can't as well manage the setbacks that a well-funded business faces.

You need to protect yourself and contact your card issuer. If the merchant comes through after that the charge back can be reversed. You weren’t the one to make the business decisions that has led to the problems the merchant is having, don’t accept responsibility for them.

As a small business owner myself this type of behavior is completely inexcusable. I have had to eat losses many times, as I would never leave a customer in the dark after processing their card. Don’t wait another minute to do a charge back because you’ve given the seller WAY too much time to sort this out. It’s important to get honest feedback no matter who is friends with who on this forum.

You've pretty much said who it was by providing the business name, which you were correct in doing, I think.

Being a small business owner yourself, you probably know how long it should take to refund your money.
No one cares about his bad decisions.... it is not important. He should have never mentioned it... but he did.

There should be a line between business and personal. He hasn't even mentioned about refunding your money
or sending the item(s) you paid for or given you a time frame. And are paying interest on by the way...

It is your decision to trust him to send the product, or refund your money. If you feel you'll receive neither,
contact your credit card company and explain the situation. They will probably instantly refund your money.

Use Paypal. If you don't get the product you ordered, they will get your money back. It happened to me.

You can say the business owners name and it won’t a personal attack if you talk about the business aspect only. So what’s his name?

I would imagine you just need to search 'group buy springs', but that's just a guess

Amazing. Protecting a scam that has made almost 400 posts on this forum. It ranks right up there with the guy who posts about rolling back odos. The moderators need to step up their game. Even reporting posts does no good.

He's got lots of fabrication skills and is a hugely ambitious hard worker. The problem is he's trying to leverage customer purchases as financing for manufacturing, something mass production never does.

It's sad that he hasn't found the funding to build stuff in larger numbers first and then sell it. Myself and just about everyone I know who buys stuff online wants a charge notification from their bank to happen near same time as the tracking number of the package being sent. I'd be a huge nightmare if someone thought I'd wait weeks or months for something they already charged me for and they didn't communicate with me the delay issue beforehand.

Is that what happened? Always wondered? Sure am glad I was able to buy the Gen2 Sunshields for all 8 windows back in 2013 before they stopped making all but the front ones. I'd be far, far less of a Prius camper without those!

I knew that I was dealing with -- and supporting -- a small business at the time of purchase. What I did not know was that I would receive no product and no communication for months. The FTC has very clear guidelines about the time frame in which a retailer is responsible for offering customers a refund when inventory is not available. The idea that this individual is commenting on PriusChat nearly every day and yet not responding to customers is inexcusable.

Of course since making this warning post, the individual in-question did reach out to me in this forum... but no attempt has been made to respond to my "tickets" on PriusOverlanding nor has a refund been processed.

If you are in communication with this person I would encourage you to tell Jimmy to do the right thing.
