I did mine many many years ago, and I paid a garage. They probably used junk parts.

My Prius has 163k miles and it doesn't bounce at all when I push down on the front and back. It's still very stiff.

Those KYB Excel G's are $82 each on Rockauto if I keep my springs. Even with the cost of the compressor I could probably stay under $400 in part to do the whole job, front and back. It looks like the original struts are Bilstein.

I wouldn't know what kind. It was done at the Les Schwab and whatever they offered.

The one thing I have noticed is that after every Transmission Drain / Refill, the "B" mode / Engine Braking seems to lose its efficacy. I got the Drain / Refill done earlier in the week and "B" mode does not seem to do much anymore.

    Just editorial: it’s B gear?

I’ve not noticed a change, not sure why that would be. You refilled the transaxle with Toyota ATF WS, on level ground, till it started overflowing?

Given the transaxle oil has no hydraulic or clutch purpose, it is doubtful B mode can be effected one way or the other. B mode simply tells the hybrid control to use engine braking in addition to regenerative, useful on extremely long downhills to save the friction brakes. The fact the system is burning energy to rotate the engine makes B mode less efficient.

I've only had the refill done at the dealership or the local shop. So I trust they know what they are doing.

Wish I knew the source of the cause as both Dealership and Local shop have told me that its unheard of. But I know what I am experiencing.

The question is why are you using B mode? It is less effective for capturing regen energy than D and normal braking.

Doubtful the drain and refill would affect the way the "B" transmission selection changes behavior. The effect of "B" is different when the battery is near fully charged than it is when it isn't.

My 2010 is at 206,000 I got the Prius about a year ago.
Head gasket was done in 2019 with 249,000 miles by dealer under emission warranty.
I cleaned the EGR 95 % blocked. I don’t think the dealer did it when they did the head gasket.
Replaced engine water pump at 200k for preventative maintenance.

They should have said its life time fluid and doesn’t need changing. You were probably charged for it and it wasn’t performed.

2013 PIP, 106 K, bought it at 38 K, done nothing except change the oil every 10K, and a couple air filters, zero issues. I log every fillup, with my commute, I average mid '60's MPG

What was your method of measuring blockage to two significant figures?

Did you happen to note the car's measurement of flow before and after that cleaning?

I didn’t use a scan tool to check for blockage. I held the EGR up to light to see how much was blocked.

Did you have a way of measuring the light passing through, compared to a clean one, out to two significant figures?
