A seller near me is offering up to 38 Gen3 hybrid battery modules. These are loose, not in the carrier/holder. Seller claims they're still holding 6 volts after a year of sitting around.

What are the odds that they are good modules, if they've really sat that long and are still holding that much charge?

    RE: used hybrid battery modules.

Without extensive testing, there is no way to predict.

I have had an extensive conversation with the Service Manager of my Toyota dealership, I am left very disappointed that the vehicle designers failed to include any form of internal diagnosis capability. With laptop batteries, you can always use a diagnostic to tell you the 'health' of the battery. It should not be any different when discussing an automobile.

How to judge a battery's condition based on its voltage change over time?

My Price-C has been parked in the garage for the last 2 and a-half years. I check and charge its traction battery once a few months. Never see SOC bar change. Last time I left it at 6 bars. Today it is still at 6 bars after 4+ months.

The battery is overe 10 years old and has 110k miles.

From what I understand, the "life" is based on charge-discharge cycles, the 10-years thing is an approximation based on time and operating hours, which are themselves approximated from mileage.

Given all of that, it makes sense that an older battery in a seldom-used, low-mileage vehicle still has some life in it after +10 years. I welcome correction from any gurus who know better than me.

How much for the modules? Also where on earth are the modules currently located or where were they previously located. Modules from southern heat zones have a degraded shortened life span.

I've had modules at 6 volts that were basically junk, 7.2 volts after sitting for a year is even better. Mind you I had a pack that had been sitting for a year, 3 even at 7 volts after load testing turned out to be unusable. Can't say definitively unless you load test them, so take a load tester with you.

    The short answer is zero.

Modules that self discharge below 7.2 volts are non recoverable junk.

So with that low of a voltage they are probably paperweights that should be taken to Batteries Plus, got it.

Seller was wanting $5 each, but I think it was a scam. I asked what year vehicle they came out of, no answer. Instead, seller claimed they were traveling to Wisconsin and they asked me to send "honest" money. I passed that up without looking back. Tampa Bay area.
