Low oil level

have you checked the oil level? is the car still under warranty?

A popular method is to add the right amount of engine oil so that the level is not low. Besides getting the notification not to come up, this will also postpone destruction of the engine, and that's why this method remains popular year in and year out.

The owners' manual will show the kind of engine oil needed and the proper way to check and add it.

 

Jumping the gun?

 

The recommended grade of oil is also stamped on the oil fill cap on top of the engine. It's likely 0W-16. There's a dipstick that can verify if your oil is actually low. Sometimes the light will come on in a turn because the oil sloshes around, and then goes out when you straighten out. Best to fill it to the middle of the two dots on the dipstick.

 

For some high-end cars, the engine is more delicate, and the lubrication requirements for engine lubricating oil are higher. If the engine lubricating oil exceeds the maintenance period, the engine oil alarm light will also be on. After the owner completes the maintenance, the 4S store will delete the engine oil alarm light, and the vehicle instrument panel will return to normal.

That's what I'm hoping too, and I read the original post four or five times over hoping I'd simply missed that part.

 

A two-year-old Prius/Prius Prime should neither consume oil nor have such a malfunction. Has the oil ever been changed in this car?

How come when a warning message or code comes up, there's this seemingly too often mentality in this forum to blame the sensor?

Of course, never assume that the oil level is OK without actually seeing the oil level on the dipstick!
