Prius c Maintenance Schedule

    Most of what I see, pad wear is very minimal by that mileage, even our stop and go traffic. Problem with the Toyota hybrids is that the brakes are often neglected due to such low pad wear. At 120k, I would not replace the pads if they are in good shape, but I would certainly pull and inspect them, lube the slide pins, etc. Many people fail to realize there is a lot more to brakes than just the pads.

    Had my state inspection at 118,000 miles a few months back, and was fully expecting to be told I need new pads as I am still on the originals. Like a dealer, my repair shop never fails to mention upcoming maintenance, but it passed without a word. Amazing technology that it can still stop the car and not wear the pads as quickly. Plus there's the added bonus of no brake dust on the wheels.

    I'll have another brakes kick-at-the-can: it's easy to get complacent, conflate "brake pad thickness" with "brake inspection". The US Warranty and Maintenance Booklet for the Prius c has the following two instructions:

    This "visual" inspection is every 5K miles, basically a look-over while the tires are being rotated. But then, every 30K miles, there's:

    Considering the c has rear drum brakes, the above description is a little off-base. But the intent is clear:

    Visual inspection every 5K miles, except full inspection, every 30K miles. The latter entailing a caliper pull-off, clean up of pads/shims, relube of all contact points and the caliper guide pins, and check rotor thickeness/runout. On the rears the drum should be inspected, drum ID compared to spec (which I don't have :(), the shoe condition/thickness inspected, and the shoe contact points with backing plate relubed. There's other contact points, the lube on them is tricky to get to, and tends to last.

    Hello! I made this and hope it is useful to y'all. I've created a Google Sheets that has all of the regularly scheduled maintenance that you've mentioned here. I have the maintenance going up to 1000K (because why not).

    P.S. I don't frequent this forum that often but since my Prius C's Hybrid Battery died I thought I'd stop by. Not looking forward to spending $4k for the battery (plus tax and labor). Battery died at 125K. :(

    I did end up going that route. That buyer too.

    My first rebuilt just failed and I decided to switch to Lithium. My car has the new Lithium battery in since Saturday and it feels amazing! So glad I switched! Time will tell if it's worth the longevity, but from what I've heard online I think it will!

    I've been noticing that these forums are a dying medium and link rot (when a cited webpage becomes unavailable) will eventually become a problem, so I'm posting the same data that is in the Google Sheet in this forum as a CSV (comma separated values) and as a link to a pastebin with the same CSV. For the future, any version of excel, google sheets, or other spreadsheet software should accept CSV data very easily.
