How to Program a New Key Fob for Full SKS Functionality

Hi all. I know there is a sticky thread on how to program a new smart key FOB. However, that only works if you already have one that currently works.

I bought this car and it came with one key, it works in the slot and starts the car but not working to remotely unlock the doors.
Bought a new SKS key and went through the procedure, however after getting into programming mode and I hit the lock/unlock buttons the doors wit just continue to cycle the locks as long as I hold the buttons down. When I let off and hit the lock button it cycles the locks twice. Any ideas?

Today (November 2023) I learned that there are two Toyota part numbers for full SKS keys: 89994-47061 refers to the version of the full SKS key with a blank metallic key. 89904-47011 is the same full SKS key without the metallic key.

Both these keys have the slot for inserting the metallic key into the housing.

Consistent with Toyota's capitalistic bent, the version of the fob without the 20 cent metallic key is ~$20 cheaper.

 

I have read all 37 pages.
2008 SKS silver key and non-OEM duplicate advertised to be programable/new.

Once I have put the car into SKS add mode (indicated by only one lock-unlock cycle), I always get TWO lock-unlock cycles after pushing both button on the new FOB. It doesn't matter if I try the new FOB first or old FOB first, or the seconds between the various steps, the new FOB always triggers two lock-unlock cycles, indicating that the process has failed. Indeed, the FOB does not work.

Was I sold a bad key by everyone's favourite online book seller, or are there any other work arounds? I've tried the many flavours of button pushing in this thread and am at the several dozen of trials stage of grief.

 

Where did you get the extra fob - from the dealer or online?

 

I went through these instructions for reprogramming a new replacement fob for my 2004 Prius and it took me a few times. In my case, for part B step 9 I had to try it twice for the programming to successfully complete. Thank you for these clear, detailed instructions

 

I wanted to add to this thread the fact that I purchased a new unused generic key fob for $50 (that is physically identical to a silver logo fob without the silver logo) and successfully programmed full sks functionality. took a few tries but I finally did chicken dance correctly.

 

*** What was the solution to this problem?******** Bad keyFOB or was it too many keys already assigned? - If it's too many keys- how do we delete one OLD key to make room for the new one??
