I just bought a Camry Hybrid (50.1MPG so far) - which I love, and our 187,000 mile 2013 CT200h was desperate for attention and started running rough with a P0301. It was a couple ounces low on coolant, but I have never topped it off. I read about this issue when I bought the car, so I have been prepared for a long time. I just wish I would have done it sooner. After my brain surgery, working on cars is more difficult, and I hardly drive so we sold off the spare vehicles leaving us with just the CT and my V10 swapped 8 MPG 1999 F-150. I never found the time or energy to do the job.

Anyway, I'm out on medical leave because tumors suck, and I have time to slowly get this job done. Fortunately on the CT, I do not have to remove the cowl. Our mileage has significantly decreased to about 34 over the last year. I can barely blow through the cooler. I wish I would have seen the techstream thread to capture actual flow, but obviously, it's horrible.

My apologies, I meant to put that in the post. I have edited it. 187,000 trouble free miles.

Yes. A quart every 3500 miles. I just found my PCV blocked, but I had already ordered one, so it’s replaced.

EGR cleaning is going very slow. It almost holds the Oxyclean without plugging the other end. EGR port 1 on the intake was also plugged and the #1 has clearly been running very rich, but 2,3,4 were only mildly rich.
I will probably get a lot of backlash, but I plan to use some BG 109. I have read reviews from multiple sources claiming it eliminated oil consumption. I’m not a huge believer in additives, but I’m going to do it.

I do oil changes with 0w-20 full synthetic Mobil 1 every 7500. I use only Toyota filters. I admit I have run longer due to health issues, but as much as it consumes, it’s self changing, right? :(

Not that it matters much, but this will no longer be my car very soon. After 30 years, my wife and I are splitting up. I’m trying to give her the best new start I can. I need the Camry which my parents lent me cash for and I can’t afford another car for her.

Yes, I’m almost 50, and my parents are bailing me out. Did I mention rumors suck?

Toyota issued a warranty extension document for the EGR, and in it is the phrase, italicized and underlined:

the majority of vehicles will not experience this problem

    They’re lying through their teeth.

1qt every 3500 is not "that" bad. Depends on how you drive also.
If you would use oven cleaner and a pressure washer you could clear that cooler
    out in about an hour.

I tried the BG stuff. It did nothing. Nothing but take my money.

I drove mellow. My soon to be ex wife is full throttle or full brake. She did 95% of the driving.

I have a gas pressure washer and oven cleaner. Thanks!

The original post in this thread will help in the longevity and maintenance of your Prius engine. Here’s my experience….

Posted on another thread, my engine started getting the rough idle at start up at just over 220k miles. Got the engine light and read the code P0301, cylinder 2 misfire. Had to drive it back home from Arizona. Reset the code and see what happens.

Drove the car back to Northern Cali with no problems.

Drove it back to HybridPit in Southern Cali for the EGR Service which included the fuel injector cleaning, intake manifold , throttle body and replacement of rubber hoses.

    IMG_3658.jpeg

These service eliminated my problems. There is no lost of coolant or oil. No coolant or oil mixture, no more rough idle and no engine light to date.

Best of all, a 5MPG increase!

Looking forward to many more miles with my daily driver, currently just over 228k miles.

Still enjoying the car after 13 years of original ownership!

Pressure washer was the answer. Maybe after all the soaking and sonic cleaner loosened it up, but hardly any flow. 3500 PSI blew carbon crap all over my shed and myself. Now the cooler flows without noticeable pressure. Also, the daylight is a good indicator. IMG_6452.jpeg

The oven cleaner with CLEAN the carbon off. The pressure washer clears it but doesn't
    get all the carbon off.

Don't use the oven cleaner on the aluminum parts though...

Well that job wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Yes, both of my hands are quite bloody, but no leftover fasteners so it must be done right.
I also have the CT200h advantage of no cowl removal required.

Water pump is due today, so I have not fired it up yet.

I won’t be able to post long term results, as my test drive will be the last time I drive the car.

I was gonna say I have one left-over cowl bolt from my foray last fall (looked till my eyes bled, couldn't find a spot for it), but never mind...

Expect the worst, because it happens, and you'll never be disapointed!

Glad you got everything running correctly!

Thanks everyone. I’ll end my time here with this awesome picture of my EGR cooler flow test.

Plot twist! Still getting divorced and separating assets, but living together.

Car’s mileage has increased to 37.5 so far. Holding off on BG while I monitor oil consumption.
