I just had the EGR valve replaced after noticeable skipping/missing in the engine of my 2010 Toyota Prius. I also had the spark plugs replaced since I have 125,000+ miles. Unfortunately the skipping is still there. My mechanic did not think the intake manifold needed to be replaced, but thought debris may be causing the issue. Has anyone had a similar problem? Suggestions?

With 125K on the car, it's highly recommended to have your mechanic clean the intake manifold, throttle body, EGR Cooler, EGR pipe, and replace the PCV valve. The EGR valve has already been replaced. The EGR Cooler can clog up with soot over time causing air flow restrictions that can lead to other engine failures such as a blow head gasket.

As @bisco and @Mendel Leisk have mentioned above, watch the @NutzAboutBolts videos that relate to the above items and share them with your mechanic. Good luck with your 2010! (y)

Thanks! I just got off the phone and my mechanic said it was difficult to clean the intake manifold because the carbon hardens like cement and the manifold is plastic, is that true? I will check out the video and youtube for further info.

It's not that hard. I used mostly Brakleen spray. Some thin pipe cleaners are good for cleaning the narrow EGR passages (one at each intake). If you've watched the @NutzAboutBolts video you can see it's a bit stubborn but not bad.

I own a 2012 Toyota Prius +. Just recently, after a long drive, I had something unusual going on with the vehicle while cruising at around 40mph in the city. When I kept the constant speed, the entire car started to rattle/shake. When I accelerated, the rattling disappeared. But when I went back to 40mph it started doing it again. And it is only doing it while driving on the gas engine. When it switches to electric, no rattling at 40mph. It is only happens on a warm engine. When cold, the rattling never happens. So, another Prius + owner tells me it is the EGR valve that needs to be either cleaned or replaced. I have about 200K miles on it. I just had the spark plugs replaced on it and no change at all. Do you all think that it is the EGR or something like a torsion vibration damper (it is what couples the gas engine with the transmission, I don't know the technical term for it)?

    Thanks!

With that miles, almost certainly near-clogged, which will be raising combustion chamber temperatures. Watch @NutzAboutBolts video #16 (EGR pipe cleaning) and check that out on your vehicle:

Nutz About Bolts Prius Maintenance Videos | PriusChat

This will give some idea of the condition of the rest of the system. You will want to clean both the intake manifold, and the egr valve/cooler (shown in other videos, same location).

Toyota Canada has issued a "warranty enhancement program" (SOSH-W11-1A, dated May 2017), describing Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) clogging. In it is the underlined comment "the majority of vehicles will not experience this condition". This is less credible than their mpg display.

This mentions a sticking EGR valve, which is just a subset of the EGR system... what about the clogged intake manifold and EGR cooler, associated hoses, etc.

I must admit that you describe it exactly as it is to my car.
I am a 2014 Prius + owner too, and I have exactly the same problem, but I did a EGR Valve cleaning, but not the intake manifold.
Here are some pics with EGR Valve, before and after cleaning...
Also, I must specify that I disassemble also the body of EGR valve... when I fit it back, I put the magnet at it;s highest position, but the motor was shaking massively... After I rotate the magnet on it's lower position, the engine works ok, but still this shaking after warm engine occurs...
I plan to clean the Intake Manifold as soon as I can, and be back with details, meanwhile, maybe someone has new thoughts about the cause of this shaking...

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

Have you installed an oil catch can:whistle:?

Another item to consider as you do all of the cleaning work;).

Hope the pics of the cooler are with a lot of mileage on your Prius :).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Thank you for your good words...
I am not familiar with this oil catch can, actually this is first time I am hearing about it...
I will do a good research and if it's suitable, I will do it...
Until than, I need to continue with intake manifold cleaning, due to this shaking...
I observed today, that if I start accelerating very heavy for few seconds, for a while the shaking dissapears...

    PS
My Prius+ has now 184.000 km
