I've seen it mentioned a couple of times that the dealership is supposed to install a cover on the holes used to tether the car during shipping.
Does anyone have pics of those holes on the G5? Finally had to retire my '05 and picked up my new Limited last night. I saw this hole referenced before I got the car and when I was cleaning out the glove box of the '05 found the plugs. It explains why I could hear rushing water when I drove the car after a heavy Florida rain. Within the first year of getting it, I complained of the sound and that it smelled musty in the car after a rain. They tested and said they couldn't find a leak. I now know where the water was getting in...
I asked the salesperson and of course he had no clue what I was talking about. I went out today and looked under the car - I don't see any holes near the rear jack spot. I can see the holes on my '05, so I have a good idea where to look. It seems like there's a cover on the undercarriage - I only see plastic up to the cat/muffler. There are plastic caps on several holes, especially near the outside edge of the car. But no rubber plugs at all.

Maybe they dont use an undercarriage anchor anymore? I read that some cars are tethered on the bumper where a tow hook would go. Or maybe the Limited has a cover underneath and there's an empty hole hidden behind it?

The most recent post is this:

It's hard to take a photo without jacking the car up - but I've attached what I could get.

I'm guessing the plastic belly pan covers them up. Putting them back is harder to just check that off a list than the plugs.

I don't think they'd be covered up, need to be exposed during shipping.

Those points tend to heavily reinforced plate, possible contenders for jack stand placement. If the 5th gen is similar to previous, the proscribed scissor jack placement positions are very flimsy, like a knife edge.

The European PDS doesn't mention the plugs at all.

It mentions the towing eyelets and covers - put one eyelet in the boot, throw the other two away, and put the covers on from the glovebox.

Maybe they're relying on the 3 front-and-back eyelets to secure Priuses?

Maybe that US plug text is generic, rather than Prius-specific? It reads rather generic...

Going off topic, the "where to put the eyelet" diagram in the PDS TSB confused me for a bit - there was something odd in the pictures.

What's the curved thing in the "type A" and "type C" pictures?

Took me a while to get it - it's the plastic rear-window grommet thing for the mains outlet. It's got a storage space! (At least in 2 variants).

I want one of those rear-window thing but I have a feeling it'll be crazy expensive. I might be mistaken but my Canadian Prime has Type D

Type A is the low-floor for the HEV. Standard in Japan, and LE in US.
Type B is the raised deck for the HEV. Accessory in Japan, and standard in higher trims in US.
Type C is the spare wheel, which can be fitted to any HEV. Build option in Japan. Could be retrofitted with Japanese parts.
    Type D is all PHEVs.

Don't know where we type-D people are supposed to put the rear-window thing if we get it. Mind you, still haven't figured out where the space for the luggage cover is...

That is a really strange set of decisions by Toyota. They don't include a space for it in the option that goes into the car with outlets(Prime/Plug-in), but they include it for two options that go into cars that don't come with outlets.

The outlet is fitted to all Japan Priuses. And there could maybe be a space.. It's worth noting the jack handle and wrench are missing from their spaces in the A diagram.

Edit: found the Japanese manuals, confirming the A and C locations. In the PHEV it goes in the right-hand compartment. No answer for B cos it's not a Japan build option, so not shown in the owner's manuals.

Can confirm, my CDN Prime has the type D tray. On another side note, does anyone have the part number for the widowmaker jack and lug wrench that fit in the tray?

    @Hammersmith

    Thanks for the diagram!

I'll get back under there and see if I can locate them. There weren't any in the glove box - so if they're missing I don't know how I'll get replacements.

Toyota does have a pre-delivery inspection checklist the dealerships are obligated to perform and check off? Considering the customers pay upwards of $2k USD for this, perhaps they should be provided with a copy of this, signed as completed by the Service Manager.

Being in possession of this document could help owners, both to show what should have been done, and as evidence when dealerships are remiss in performing the prep.

The hole plug diagram (thanks to @Hammersmith, in post #3) that Toyota created (primarily for service departments?) is hopelessly vague.

I also had a look at the parts diagram, and I only saw 2 points behind the front wheels where the standard oval plugs go. And if they were missing, they're a standard part the dealer can easily order.

But I don't think they're using those points in shipping, so I think the plugs should be fitted when they arrive at the dealer. I think that US text is generic boilerplate for any Toyota model and not Prius-specific.

I think the Prius is just lashed using the 3 towhooks; you can see them just using 2 for the cars in this documentary:

2005 Prius only had a front towhook, so would have needed to use at least the rear underbody holes.

What you need to check is that you've got one towhook in the storage tray, and that the front and rear towing covers were taken from the glovebox and installed properly. The rear one is in two pieces, for the body-colour and black parts, and probably not intended to be removed again, unlike the front ones.

Edit: Although it is possible that there is a genuine US-versus-Europe shipping difference here. Maybe a couple of tow-hooks is good enough heading west to Europe, but not for a trans-Pacific crossing? But on the other hand the boat in that documentary was crossing both the Atlantic and Pacific.

If they aren't there, you should still be under warranty, right? I'd just shuttle it back to where I bought it and demand that they install them. That would be really bad publicity for a dealership that didn't do the prep properly (just sayin').

You can find lots of discussion and part numbers here: OEM spare tire install | PriusChat

From there it's 09105-47020 you want for the type D PHEV tray: jack + handle + wrench, plus small bag for the handle + wrench.

Continuing the off-topic part of the thread, I've spent a few minutes in Paint highlighting all the official storage locations for bits according to the manuals I've seen (from various countries).

    Storage.png

And the window grommet would have to go in the rear-most slot in type B, but I've not seen any document making that Official, so I'm not marking it :)

I seem to see a couple of other small slots unaccounted for in each image other than B - it looks like they're molded for something specific. Maybe weird wheel nut keys?

I'm 99% certain that's what they're for. They perfectly fit the 21mm socket I've got in there for my impact wrench.

And type B has them too(that's the one I currently have), they're just not clearly shown in the image.
