I am replacing the HG on a 2010 with 262k miles. I bought it as a fixer upper. Several of you have been very helpful in my other thread. I will get the head out later this week, but I did look under the valve cover and it looks very clean. The original owner told me she changed the oil religiously whenever the light on the dash came on as well. For those reasons, I think I am going to reuse the original timing chain and guides (unless the guides look worn). I also understand that the car has never been overheated, which is comforting to know. However, when I took it out, the EGR cooler was almost totally clogged, and the intake manifold was pretty dirty.

I'm about to order parts. Here is my current list:
    -Toyota Overhaul Gasket Kit
    -Engine Water Pump
    -Thermostat
    -PCV valve
    -Head bolts

Here are things I'm on the fence about. Can anyone advise whether I should add them to my list?
    -Inverter water pump
    -Coil packs (they are original)
    -Timing chain tensioner
    -Radiator cap

I'm also doing some normal maintenance like air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, and also a new battery (the car still had the original!!!). If there's anything I've missed please chime in. All advice is greatly appreciated.

I don't know much about the Prius, but aren't the coils real easy to replace? Probably no benefit to doing them at this point.

For optional list, I’d say same story as above for inverter coolant pump and timing chain tensioner. I believe there is a new gasket for the latter in the “kit”. Also, don’t think there is a radiator cap.

maybe Permatex Ultra Black gasket maker; it has a much longer cure time, so you don’t have to rush timing chain cover install.

Do you have 10 mm double hex bit for the head bolts?

Do you think I should do the inverter coolant pump and TCT, or do you mean you're on the fence about them?

I have an XZN socket set on the way, hoping it will fit. I may have to go buy the correct bits (bi-hexagon) which I have learned are different.
