Put in a new battery, and now electrical seems charged.. I have headlights and door switches and door open blinking light and little green light where you're supposed to insert the fob.. But putting the key in does nothing. put on the brake, press the start button and I have a blank dashboard and control panel window.

Possible that I didn't hook something up correctly when I was replacing the battery? Or could I have screwed up something having to do with the computer logic when I was milking the old battery by charging it up every morning so it would start the car until I finally got around to buying a new one?

It's possible with before you got the blank dashboard did you see all of the amber lights traction control and all that? If you push the button without touching the brake once then once more do you get the ACC mode? Have you had trouble with your speedometer and gas gauge displaying before? Generally just charging the battery up using the car and then having to do the same the next time you use it generally doesn't cause too many problems If you have a code reader see if you can get a read also check the voltage of your battery with a battery tester or a voltmeter turn the car on or try to turn the car on and when it goes blank check it with your voltmeter again is it well below 12 volts?

Occasionally I would get the blank dashboard and had to do the funky door/light switch/starter button thing. That would always restore now dash/display panel function.

Inserting fob causes seatbelt not fastened alarm to beep, but car doesn't respond to power button being pressed whether foot on brake or not.

Don't have a voltmeter or code reader ... will try to get one.

But even when I'm jumping battery off another car I still don't get engine response.

It appears you have 2 separate issues. The combo meter that is in its way out or already out. The other issue is no HV battery. I suspect for the second issue you need to play again with the safety orange switch and make sure it clicks. Then the car will start.

Your car doesn't start up immediately because you push the start button That's not how it works pretty soon after that but generally speaking it's not like you're turning the key turning a starter which is starting the gas engine there is no starter. So you need to check the orange safety plug and on the down stroke you want to slam it home when you're pushing it down to lock it and to turn off the interlock or whatever you would want to call that turning it on or off doesn't really matter to me it's all backwards and electronics so when you offer the orange plug up and you swing the hoop up the last thing you do is pull it down and you want to pull it down smartly now go push the button but it would be good to have your dash working when you're trying to button push have you noticed you have to hold the button sometimes to turn the car off when the dash isn't working have you noticed that or you push the button twice or you're sitting there pushing the button trying to get the car off and actually if you just hold the button in until everything goes blank but not looking at the speedometer because that's always blank usually you look at the other lights over to the right anyway that sounds like what's happening.

If you just replaced the 12v battery and the car won't do anything now, any chance you reversed leads for a second or anything? If so, you likely popped the fusible link in the underhood fuse box. Otherwise your symptoms are similar to a popped AM2 fuse.

You say when jumping, that you don't get an engine response. Does the dash or display work when you jump?

Nope ... No dash or display either. Just the open door light and the headlights.

The HV battery safety plug is inserted properly and well?

Just checked the 15v AM2 and sure enough, it was blown. Quick trip to the auto parts store, plugged in the new fuse, dashboard immediately lit up and the car started fine. Thanks!

Your inverter pump is probably failing causing that 12 volt fuse AM2 to blow usually that's the case so now that you've plugged it in put your hand on the inverter pump with the car on and see that it's running now watch it for a few hours or what have you when you drive the car and see if it blows again there could be an internal short in the pump and it's blowing the AM2 fuse . You would then unplug the inverter pump with a long pair of needle-nose pliers and leave the plug dangling until you get a new pump unless it's extremely warm in the location where you are driving You will not even notice your inverter pump is not working unless you are going to try to drive the car at a hundred miles an hour for 10 hours or something crazy I've driven without the inverter pump in 65° weather for a month didn't damage a thing that I know of.
