2023 Prius Prime - Share Your EV Mode Range, Rate

11.6kWh from the grid on Level 2 to get 10.6kWh into the battery sounds about right. But with XSE wheels and with climate control anything over spec is great.

Ignore the Toyota app to the tune of completely, though.

 

What are the highest ranges, or highest miles/kWh, you have heard people get when they were driving at lower speeds, and weren’t driving downhill or on highways?

I have a 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE. It’s supposed to get 42 miles of range on its approx 18kWh, (approx 14kwh EV mode), battery. I live in Hawaii, where it’s mostly low speed and flat areas. I can normally average 4.5 per kilowatt hour, or about 58 to to 60 miles of range. (In fact after a full charge my dash used to show 60 miles EV range). My vehicle is much heavier than a Prius prime. I’m wondering in ideal conditions, flat, low speed, but not cheating (meaning not downhill) what the best numbers people are getting for stats for the Prius Prime as I’m considering one for my wife.

The new Prius Prime has a range around that of your Rav4P, so it should get about the same as the Rav under the same conditions.

 

In low speed (<45 mph) driving around town with no hills, just typical traffic lights and stop signs, I'm getting a range of about 50 miles on a full charge, which is about 11 kWh. The Prius Prime battery capacity is 13.6 kWh. The usable EV only range is a bit less. Highway driving, with hills and aggressive merging is getting me about 36 miles EV only on a full charge. I have a 2024 XSE Premium.

 

It's not really the best time of year to compare best EV range from HI to the mainland. Summer EV range is typically higher, until it gets too hot and heavy A/C usage brings max EV range back down for many. owners.

Only way you're gonna know for sure how good or bad the Prius Prime is compared to your Rav4 Prime is to drive it the same way you're currently driving the Rav.

 

I know recent time of year is an ideal for ranges in cold environments. That’s why I’m asking Not what people are getting now, but just what the best they have heard that people can get, or have gotten in terms of range.

 

Well the last few days its been above 10C and I went from getting around 55-60km with winter tires and some use of the hvac to now having done the same daily commute twice this week which would drain almost all the charge, to having 30% left on the capacity meter over the same distance. Before changing my winter tires/steel wheels back to stock I may add. I have the 17 inch wheels if that provides context.

I also havent run hvac at all since its so mild and comfortable out, which I am sure makes a big difference as well.

With the stock all seasons back on (bridgestone Ecopia where I live) with the aero covers, I suspect range will improve a little more again.

The car's kwh/100km went from averaging around 16.5 to 13.5 too. Which is a change equivalent from 3.75mi/kwh to 4.6. So quite nice.

Only a couple day's driving but the temperature change is very very apparent in its impact and just makes me happy again that we chose a PHEV over a full EV given the fluctuation which I had heard before could be quite large.

 

What’s the distance of your commute and how much range (km or miles) does it show is left when you get home now? And what speed is most of the drive done at? Mostly flat driving? Thanks.
