Digital Rearview Mirror - No such thing

From what I have read and seen on this site and others I am guessing it will cost around $2k for parts.

Yeah, don't try to do this upgrade OEM-style; just too expensive and disruptive for the car. There are plenty of aftermarket versions that will do 98% as good a job for <25% of the price. Only difference is you will need to glue a camera to the rear window instead of it being integrated into the liftgate.

 

I install a Wolfbox G850 as dash and digital rearview mirror.
Is a cheaper option and cover the issue to the small rearview mirror.

 

looks great? How much? Did you install yourself or pay a shop? Wireless /wired?

 

Back view is much bigger and better than the orignal mirror.
It's $150 on Amazon right now.
It's wired but I was able to install it myself.
I also add a usb type A power adapter so I don't have too use the type C or 12V ports.
I was able to hide all wires and adapter behind the rearview mirror casing.

So far it's been working great under bright sun light.
No issue while driving and front/back recording is good enough to read license plates clearly.

 

Did you have the Toyota digital rearview or are you comparing it to the standard mirror? I have the Toyo digital rearview but really want front and rear cameras that don't cost a fortune.

Where did you put the rearview and how did you run the wires?

 

My limited didn't have the digital rearview mirror but I did test drive one that has it.
The bazel on the Toyota digital mirror are huge and the viewing size are small compare to G850's 12" display.

I mounted it with the 3M tape that the camera came with at the top of rear window.
No drilling or mounting rack require but I do have to pull the frame robber out to tuck the wire in.
Reset of the wire can be tuck in to the passenger side frame and hide in the casing on the front window.

With the type A power adapter it use the connector from under the front window casing
So no wires laying around and it don't need to occupy any of the type C ports.

@srwax Do you know if the rearview camera connection into the screen is a regular analog composite video input? I want to use a different rearview camera that is already installed and uses analog composite, and I'm hoping the screen supports using any analog video input of my choice (with the proper composite to 3.5mm plug of course). Thank you!

 

This is a simular cable that's use with my rearview mirror.
You can check and see if it will work for you or maybe you can find a adpter cable

 

(I assume you're asking about the main infotainment screen and not a screen built into a rearview mirror.)

Absolutely not a standard composite cable going into the infotainment screen. They use a proprietary 3 or 5 channel connector for the video feeds. That being said, it's possible the video format is compatible if a new connector was spliced on. But there would be some trial and error needed as I don't think the channels are labeled in the Electrical Wiring Diagram. Toyota says successful repairs to the video cords would not be guaranteeable, so they advise replacement instead of repair.

If you want, I can take a picture of the connectors tomorrow. I've currently got my passenger door harness out which has the male and female versions of the connector(I've got the Panoramic View Monitor option).

 

Great post and outstanding job with your upgrade. Does the Wolfbox include the garage door buttons? I wouldn't want to lose those on my XSE.

 

The Wolfbox doesn't include garage door buttons. However, I attached it over the original mirror so I still able to use those buttons.

Here are a few more pictures.

You can pull the black robber out of the trunk frame completely because it's not glue.

Once it's out, you can tuck the camera wire into the trunk frame and follow the ceiling frame gap to the center concel.
