Toyota prius gen4 plug in 2016-2022 heat exchanger bypass?

    Will all the heat exchanger brake after some time? Should u do the bypass before it brakes?
    If i still got waranty of the car, should toyota service change the heat exchanger for free even if it not have broken already? Some TBA thing i read.
    Cant fint the parts that he shows in the video on autozone for bypass.

    1) i don't think so
    2) warranty is different in every country. you need to contact the dealers and/or toyota
    3) search for parts on ebay and etc.

    I don’t know if anyone has addressed the issue of exhaust gas leaking out of the damaged converter, if the bypass is done?

    Coolant can leak from the radiator inside the Exhaust Heat Recovery System, but that doesn't mean exhaust flowing through the shell around the radiator can escape, anywhere other than the tail pipe.

    DO NOT bypass a good exhaust gas heat exchanger. The coolant on the other side of the exchanger will keep the seals/soldered portions from melting within the hot exhaust gas stream. Removing the coolant from the exchanger will ensure break-down and eventual failure of that part. In Sweden, I would think you'd want your passenger cabin as warm as you can get it in the winter months.

    Just my 2 cents..

    I phrased it wrong. Addressed the possibility of exhaust coming back through the emptied bypass lines. I saw the comments but don’t know why suddenly the hole that leaked coolant is not there. So exhaust would be leaking out under the car.

    I don’t see why a hole in a radiator (likely a tiny crack), enclosed within an exhaust pipe cylinder, would cause an exhaust leak.

    If the exhaust Heat Recirc system was bypassed AND the heat exchanger coolant inlet and outlets were not capped, an exhaust leak could happen.

    If the Recirc valve is not permanently forced into its warmed up position after a bypass, exhaust gas will be partially restricted as it flows past the exchanger.

    but I think that you need a bypass on pipes / hoses that go through the exhaust thing too, otherwise it will leak out exhaust gases and you will get a fail dote on the annual inspection?

    Can a normal bypass hose handle the heat of exhaust gases or do you have to weld them together with steel pipes?

    Just cap the steel pipes or connect them with a radiator quality hose.
