Yeah. I'll be doing this to both my Prii. Now that I live where it rains a lot more this is a concern.
    Great Thread.

On a side note I'm on a job in Miami and got AVIS to give me a 2022 Prius as my rental car for the week. WOW very different then my 08. Obviously... Not crazy about the center console display being in the middle. Mine is a base model I think. NAV not installed...how do I see if I have HUD?

Hi Everyone - let's make sure to CALL Toyota HQ for issues like this leaking trunk. IF enough of us report this, they may issue a recall or offer service to fix. I just called them to let them know, and forwarded this thread: (800) 331 - 4331
But, they need each of us to call and report!

I doubt you will get any traction on a 19-year-old model, regardless of how many people contact "HQ" and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a recall.

At this juncture, you just need to apply a little sealer to the affected areas and call it a day.

I hear you! I was rear ended by a truck in August. And since then have this leaking issue. Never had any leaking before. I'm taking my car into Toyota Service to verify what the cause of my leaking is....bc my car insurance needs to fix this!

As this entire post suggests this car has leak issues and doesn't need a rear end accident to leak. Its a rare 07 that does not leak including mine.
In the present I would be more concerned the 12 volt battery may be sitting in a pool of water and if not dealt with could rot out that battery well and the battery could fall out.

Someone needs to grab a flashlight and look in that 12 volt battery battery well and check to see if its filled with water like many and I can guarantee it wont be your insurance company.

This was a huge headache for me when I first got my gen2..took it to a good body shop and they poured water in different areas on the hatch to locate the leak points

Toyota really dropped the ball on this one..really hesitant to buy a 2023 Prius because of their track record with new releases..

The "hatch leak" problem should be added to the recall list and this is why.

    RUST.

The entire battery bar is rusted. I have had to scrape the bar down and add wd 40 to it. Not a smell or a material you want in your car. Thermite only needs rust and magnesium to combust. Scary..and its sitting on top and next to two batteries. These are childrens seats. It is not safe.

    NO RESOLVE.
There is no way to stop the leak (unless you get a plastic tarp; cant drive with a plastic tarp on). There is no product that can be bought via toyota or a retail box store to stop the leak (that i am aware of).

On average, in one storm while parked and in motion i take in about a half gallon to a gallon of water. Had i not bought a rubber trunk mat water would have a direct route to the battery area.

ACCESSORIES. The car camera i bought fogged up, condensed and stopped working. Any accessories you buy are going to have the same problem.

MOLD. Mold and mildew follows. I can not reasonably air the car out after every storm.

Lastly, what really pisses me off....there is a (3 year?) WARRANTY for the battery. Yet there is only one location in california to make the switch. I missed the warranty date this year and it pisses me off. Im left with a very inefficient prius that shoukd be going 500 miles per fill and instead gets half. I could have bought an older car for 1/4 of the cost and crashed it a thousands times and be ok with no water leak.

Idk toyota always had great cars and this prius c leaves a bad mark. The hatch leak problem is recall worthy and should follow under the LEMON LAW.

Is this the Prius c in your profile that has this leak problem?
    Why do you say this?

Thanks for the detailed pictures! I knew about the roof leak, the others are a surprise!
Leaks are fixable with caulk, I used silicone on my ‘08 Prius 2. Caulked both trim sides and no more standing water in the trunk. I treated the surface rust with Zinc spray, it stops rust and corrosion and dries fast. It leaves a light grey finish behind.

Update since my last reply, it started leaking again. Now it’s leaking in front of the pressure vent (driver side). There was a pool of water in the vacant compartment underneath it. I was in the car when disassembling the liner, saw it dripping. Videotaped it right away. Going to hose it down soon to identify other leaky areas.
