few days ago it said cooling oerformance of hybrid battery is low, visit dealer, but we did some searching and cleaned up the air vents or whatever it is called and now the msg disappeared!

however today, it said that EV mode was not available this morning, and I wasn’t going too fast or anything either. I gave it some time, and now my display looks like this, with Trip A being messed up when it shouldnt be that much, my EV saying its at 100%..

I called toyota, and they said to come in for a look but i wanted to see if this was something urgent I needed to worry about? because i wont be able to get it to a mechanic soon

unfortunately, you have to have the trouble codes read to determine if you should worry or not.

Are you still getting the cooling performance message or just the “ev mode not available” message? The EV mode (button) is very limited and only activates with plenty of charge and if you’re going under 25 mph (40 km/h)

no im not getting that msg now fortunately, but it says EV Mode deactivated excessive speed when i was going pretty slow.

Maybe when the cooling system had an error, it heated up the overall system a bit? And thats why my EV mode is pretty rusty? Ahh

These are the symptoms of a battery that has lost its capacity.
In the morning, after the night, several very weak modules in the battery were discharged lower than the others. The computer saw this and did not allow you to use EV mode. In a short time, these weak modules were charged to maximum and now EV mode is 100%.

Glad to hear you’re not getting the other message. The cooling fan vents can get clogged with dust and debris, so that was likely the first issue. Check it 2-3 times a year going forward and vacuum out if needed.

As for the EV mode button, it’s a pretty useless function for anything beyond parking lot speeds, and even with a full battery being indicated it still might not want to turn on. As long as the hybrid battery is kicking on and off with normal driving (around 42mph / 67kph and under) you’re good to go.
