2018 Prius Prime - first time for tire replacement!

    As a remote worker and now newly retired, I have put just 30k miles on my car in six years! Given that I still have 4/32nds tread, I cannot see why I would want to bother paying for tires rated to go mega miles as I wouldn’t be able to get my money’s worth out of that expenditure. I am considering either replacing the OEM tires - Toyo Nanoenergy A29 or even go with a less expensive Hankook while the Toyota tire sale is still on. Any opinions are welcomed. I don’t expect more mileage in the future as my car is not the road trip car (we own a hybrid Prius as well). Thanks

    it's a personal choice based on many factors. my number one is noise level

    I think you can probably go a few more years with the OEMs. I just replaced mine @ 40K, still about 1/32 from the tire warning strips.
    The reason I replaced them was there was a very good sale on tires with free install, lifetime balance w/road hazard; two of them had patches in them from nails. I went with a heavier thicker tire, hopefully less prone to flats. The tires has a slight shimmy, when first installed, it seems to have settled out after a few hundred miles. Haven't had it on wet pavement yet, but I'm assuming it'll do fine - Temp. A Traction A; rated M+S touring tires.
    If you're in snow country, you should probably pull the trigger sooner rather than later.

    Thanks very much for the answers, especially the points from Biomed. I had just asked my husband if he thought we could wait a bit longer for replacement when I read your answer. I believe I will put a bit more mileage on them while I consider the choices. I want to get a good LRR tire at a decent price. I live in the South so no worry for snow either.
