Gen 3 vs Gen 4 water pump replacement

Enough to make one wonder if some of those aftermarket labor rate figures also haven't been updated since the repair manual instructions were improved.

 

No they haven't. I look at them daily.

 

Good to know, for people who rely on those sources to make labor estimates.

 

I don't condone the use of them, they SHOULD be taking Toyota manual numbers. I think 11 is ridiculous and price gouging.

The water pump should be replaced at 150,000 miles............... unless you want to possibly ruin the engine or cause more head gasket problems..... mine went out at 167,000

 

You can easily replace the pump in under two hours.....

 

Not on a Gen 4 you can't. Please provide a detailed video of such repair for us to see you or anyone do it with a timer on a laptop or clock in the video so it can be proven.

In fairness, this was a thread started to compare the gen 4 vs. gen 3 water pump labor complexity.

On the other hand, the person who started it seemed to be thinking a 2017 v is a gen 4, when it isn't.

On the third hand, even for gen 4, the Toyota Flat Rate Manual time for the job did go from 7 hours down to 1.3 hours (which I would think qualifies as "under two hours"), once they improved the Repair Manual procedure to no longer have step 1 be "remove engine assembly with transaxle".

All the Vs were gen 3. The OP has a V.
The OP thinks it somehow has a 4th gen chassis.

 

Right, the OP made a simple mistake and thought "it's a 2017, must be gen 4", not realizing the v wagon was still gen 3.

All that was covered in the very first reply three weeks ago.

Of course, but then the conversation moved to discussing the ACTUAL Gen 4 waterpump IN A Gen 4 vehicle and the labor hours involved in such a job. How hard is this to follow?
