So I just bit the bullet and purchased a used Toyota Prius T3 VVT-I CVT 1.8 2014 (Gen3). Mileage being 213,000 with a reconditioned hybrid battery. Mechanically it seems fine and the hybrid battery also seems to run fine no knocking/rattling on cold, charges and discharges etc.

I'm not expecting it to last forever but would like to keep it running for the next 3-4 years at least (~50k miles)?

I want to go ahead and give it a full service (fluids) and engine maintenance (EGR cleaning/spark plugs). I am trying to figure out in what best order to go about this so I don't have to redo steps i.e. removing the undertray several times etc. Anyone have a go-to list?

Already located few good guides on the forum but for the life of me can't find a periodic maintenance schedule for the car? Not even on Toyota dealership website? I am also assuming at high mileage I should be performing certain maintenance more often 5k/5000miles/6 months mark as opposed to the advised 10k?

    Thanks.

    Congrats and welcome!
Idk about the u/k, but try Toyota.com/owners for a maintenance schedule.
I would definitely go to 5k oil changes, we mostly recommend that even for low mileage.
I think you want to do the plugs and egr at the same time.
Someone will be along to help with the rest .
    All the best!

IIRC Toyota UK has a total blackout regarding maintenance schedule; they don't publish one.

Toyota USA takes a different tack, publishes an event-by-event schedule. While the info is in there, the format is such that it's humanly impossible to discern the patterns/frequencies, of the various services.

Toyota Canada used to publish a cumbersome schedule, all the info for ALL their vehicles lumped into one behemoth of a schedule, full of exceptions/exclusions, to the point of being unreadable. Which spawned my need to create a table format transaltion, it was necessity, lol. I say "used to", because now they have gone to the US event-by-event format, and ONLY online.

Anyway, I've attached my table format translation of the Toyota USA schedule, both as published and a version where I've extrapolated to 240 miles or 24 years, in Excel and PDF formats.

Had a look but couldn't find much. Was able to get a electronic copy of owners manual from Toyota UK at least.

Yeah when doing the EGR there's a few things that will be accessible/need to come off, from a quick video I saw by NutZAndBolts would be spark plugs/PCV valve/engine coolant change. Will try and form a list of things that can be serviced in order, think it may be useful to new car owners i.e. when getting a new used car.

    Thanks!

Yeah I realised as couldn't really find anything, the next best alternative I could see would be purchasing a workshop manual as they tend to incorporate one?

Had a look at the list, looks great, thanks! Interesting as the intervals for most service parts/liquids seem to be a standard interval. Before I bought this Prius had a Nissan Almera which I have the maintenance schedule for and things like coolant/spark plugs etc seem to be in-line the same miles/km or time lapsed.

Repair Manual, at least the pdf I have, doesn't have maintenance schedule.

There's a few things absent from Toyota's maintenance schedule, worth considering:

    1. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system cleaning. It's newly developed for gen 3 (model years 2010~2015), and very evident in hindsight, insufficiently tested. There's a suspected corellation between clogged EGR, engine overheating, and subsequent head gasket failure. From what I've seen and heard,

I believe this to be the case, and advocate cleaning the full system, including the EGR passages in the intake manifold at least every 50k miles.

Regarding timing/coordination for EGR cleaning, doing it in conjunction with and engine coolant change would be a good idea. I never seem to manage that myself, but do have a few tricks. See the first and second link in my signature for more info. (On a phone turn it landscape to see signatures.)

    2. Transaxle fluid change. (see signature)

    3. Brake fluid change. (see signature) Toyota USA says nothing about this. Toyota UK says..., well nothing about any service, so who knows. Toyota Canada says every 3 years or 48k km's (roughly 30k miles), whichever comes first.

    4. More frequent inverter coolant change, say sync'd with engine coolant change. Toyota USA says to do engine coolant at 100k miles (or 10 years), but delay inverter coolant 'til 150k miles (or 15 years). Toyota Canada says do both at 160k kms (rouglhy 100k miles) or 10 years.

    5. Oil catch can install?

    6. Conversion to spin-on oil filter?

    7. Underbody/suspension rust mitigation?

Would you be able to share the repair manual you have? I am considering purchasing a manual from a well known publisher here in the UK - Toyota PRIUS III PHASE 1 - 5D 2009-06->2012-021.8 100HP (2ZRFXE) by Haynes.

    1. I will do a coolant flush before undertaking the EGR cleaning as will let the components soak in some sort of cleaner overnight (not sure which yet) will take my time. I can also then access the PCV valve to replace and clean the throttle body (removal and clean) - are these recommended as well generally?

    3. Assuming the fluid type is DOT4? Owners manual doesn't state anything about brake fluid type/capacity.

    4. Makes sense to do engine and inverter coolant in one go, as you'd need more than a 5L bottle for the engine alone so with 2 bottles (10L) you'd fill both and have a bit left over.

    5. Will need to look into this. Whether it would be of benefit in my case.

I think the only isolated service fluids/components that wouldn't be done hand in hand with another change would be engine oil change, brake fluid change and transmission fluid change right? I.e. for the EGR you could potentially loose some coolant if not careful/you'd have access to the spark plugs etc.

See the top two tips in my signature; there’s a couple of tips for avoiding coolant spillage. (On a phone turn it landscape to see signatures)
