I have grown to love how they look. I guess I want efficiency and good looks. A small sacrifice. I’m not quite as serious about saving energy as I thought.

When I drive, though, I’m back to my old driving habits of driving for efficiency. Now that I have a car that can report EV efficiency directly, I’m trying to do my best there (as I used to be for gas mileage).

What do you guys have your tire pressures set at? In the app, mine measure 44psi in the back and 45psi and 46psi in the front. That seems rather high, doesn’t it?

I went out for an EV drive tonight (just for the sake of measuring efficiency). I drove on roads with about 55mph speed limits yet with many stop lights (1/4 mile apart). Overall, without the a/c on, I got about 5.0 miles/kWh. I know I could have done better if it weren’t for those stupid stop lights. When the upcoming light was red, I tried to coast in to maintain kinetic energy.

As expected, this isn’t as good as other people have reported. I guess that’s the penalty for buying the upper trim with all of the bells and whistles.

I’ll be taking the first trip to work tomorrow when the stop lights are further part (but with higher speeds of 65mph…I may not drive that fast, though).

That is a tad bit high but OK. I use 43 psi front and 42 psi rear in my Gen 4 PHEV, which is I think just about optimal for fuel economy and tire wear 51-psi tires. I have accumulated zero tire wear in 50,000 miles on my Dunlop Enasave 01 A/S 91S OEM tires.

The dealer who sold me the car never asked me what I wanted. I think I would have asked for something similar, though. I think they must have been very helpful in allowing me to get 56mpg (after EV was gone) on the trip from Milwaukee to Minneapolis (at speeds of 65mph to 70mph).

I’ve never driven a car with the thinner tires on larger wheels. I just assumed that they were supposed to be set to the higher psi values.

The app might be reporting a couple psi high.

Quick question: Do you open the windows to keep it from getting so hot on the inside? I’m worried about overheating the EV battery.

I guess until I hear differently, I’m going to be cracking my windows open so the EV battery doesn’t get as hot.

Actually, the tire-pressure monitoring systems (TMPSs) in general have an accuracy of about 1%, which is better than any cheap tire gauge, which could be as bad as worse than 10%.

Don’t let your tire-pressure monitoring system leave you feeling flat | AAA newsroom

The only caveat is that they don’t update when the vehicle is stopped, and they update infrequently when the vehicle is being driven. This is to save their battery cells. Therefore, you cannot use them when putting air and adjusting the tire pressure—you would need a good tire gauge or rely on the pressure gauge on the pump for that. The pressure gauge on my digital pump is fairly accurate, about within 0.5 psi if not better.

Your HV battery is not air cooled, and it's not inside the car. Yours is mounted underneath the car, is cooled by the heat pump, and is warmed in the winter by electric heating elements. Having your windows cracked will make no difference to the HV battery.

Like others have said (and I also have a 2024 Prius PHEV), your PHEV Hybrid battery is different in key ways than the HEV hybrid battery. Check out these two Weber Auto videos to better see and understand this:
