I park it in the evening with the battery showing almost fully charged. Then in the morning, it is almost fully discharged. It also shows a low MPG reading for the first 10 minutes of morning driving (bar graph). What would partially discharge my battery overnight?
Battery wearing out . My generation 2 with very new dealer batteries get parked green errynight in am at start green . But quickly to blue
Maybe assess the battery with something like Dr Prius, phone app that works with bluetooth OBD dongle. Carista dongle works well. Just the static test will give some idea; here's a screenshot, in demo mode:
It got worse. I parked the car for 1 hour and after starting, I noticed that it had only 2 lines showing on the battery icon. Will it leave me stranded?
not likely, and if/when it does, just disconnect the 12v fro a minute and it will start and run until you shut it down again. what are the bars doing while you are driving?
It seemed to me that the motor was revving up faster when I left from a stop yesterday. The bars slowly when up on a 12 mile round trip last night and ended up 60% on the battery icon. But this A. M., I was surprised to see that it is still 60%. My Prius is a 2010 model with 225,000 miles and with the original traction battery. Two years ago I power cycled the modules with a Bguad charger which cycled 4 at a time. My recollection is that all was at least 50% capacity of new. I think it is time for a newer set of batteries. Most ebay batteries boast X number of volts-a poor specification to count on. I saw one with 80 to 90% capacity. If true, that is what I should buy. I should replace all of the modules, I think. Looking at the Dr Prius reading shown above in post #3, which modules should be replaced? Or which spec is most important, voltage, delta voltage or internal resistance?
It sounds like you've got several "weak" modules in your traction pack. Whenever you stop, the other batteries in the chain tries to 'lift' the weak ones back up to their level (ie. discharging the other good modules in the pack). Your mileage is most likely taking a nose-dive and your going to see the red triangle very soon. You just haven't meet the ECU's criteria for tripping that error message yet. Sorry.....
